Using only song names from one artist, cleverly answer these questions. Repost as “My Life According to (band name)"

My Life According to Runrig )

Those who know me well, and also have some knowledge of Gaelic pronunciation, will be amused at the next to last answer...

And, as promised - here is the first full chapter of Dust. For anyone who doesn't understand the title... I'll explain it much later if you still haven't worked it out!

Disclaimer: Many of the characters in this story do not belong to me, but are being used for amusement only, and all rights remain with the estate of JRR Tolkien. (And Joss Whedon if he is at all bothered that Tindómë once spent a short time in his care...)

Chapter One; The Precious Years are Gone )

Chapter Two is here
curiouswombat: (BigBang)
This is the story I wrote for the Tolkien BigBang! It is completed in a prologue and eight chapters - a total of about 27,500 words - illustrated by [livejournal.com profile] ellynn_ithilwen. I will post both Prologue and Chapter One tonight as the Prologue is, by the nature of things, short!

The verses at the beginning of each chapter are from the songs of Runrig. Here on my journal I will try, as far as possible, to actually link each one to the song on YouTube so that you can hear it.

I have left the chapter end notes that were written for anyone who had not read the earlier stories.

Summary - Tolkien tells us that, after the death of King Elessar, Legolas built a ship and sailed West, accompanied by Gimli. This is a story of that time, a time of mortal deaths, preparations... and The Key.

On to Chapter One, The Precious Years Are Gone.
curiouswombat: (stormy weather)
After posts featuring stormy weather, the Ben-my-Chree, and the wreck of the Ellan Vannin my mind appears to be on the sea. In the comments to the post about the Ellan Vannin I was reminded of a track by my favourite band Runrig, and [livejournal.com profile] zanthinegirl and I decided it was well worth sharing. Especially as so many of my FL live, if not near the mighty Atlantic, then near water of one type or another.

The version I have embedded here includes the words.

I am curious as to how some of my friends 'feel' these words.

Callum, the lyricist, is a practising Christian and I think this may come over to some - but apart from that, when I listen to the lyrics myself I find myself thinking of Tolkien's elves and I wondered if the lyrics struck the same chord with any of my friends?

Happy New Year to all.

I want to share this piece of music with you all, because to me, New Year is a very Celtic thing.

It is the piece made especially for the opening of the new BBC Alba service - the BBC Gaelic language channel for Scotland.

If you like scenery, and people, you will love it, but is especially for [livejournal.com profile] runriggers, [livejournal.com profile] talesofsnape and [livejournal.com profile] fionnabhar - they will all see why, if they play it!

Also for [livejournal.com profile] mylescorcoran for his birthday, if he likes this sort of thing...but there wasn't room to put you on the header - sorry!
