At last I can post my B2ME story here as it has now been unveiled!

So;

My prompt: The turning of the year brings feasts and holidays. It's time to enjoy the bounty that was saved for the winter. Create a story or a work of art featuring a Winter seasonal food. Bonus for including a recipe.

And I was prompted to write what is, basically, a Returnverse Gap-filler.

This is the story of a small elfling arriving in The West expecting to be reunited with his parents... Or further adventures of The winter Elfling from In The Winter Garden.

Writing this has taken me a little while, which is what has delayed the next chapter of The Valinor Trail - but that should be posted within the next week or so, too.

The challenges at tolkien_weekly recently were based on the ingredients for mulled wine.

This cried out to me for Recipe Fic. And so each of the seven drabbles features a particular dish - and is followed by the recipe for the dish.

The main character is simply described as an un-named young elf in a kitchen - those who have read the Returnverse might like to know that it is Tharhîwon. If you remember who he is you will understand his thoughts from the beginning - but if you don't, I will explain a little more at the end.

Beloved husband has broken off from writing to beta this chapter for me - he shows his love in practical ways!

At the end of Chapter 14 our intrepid pair thought they might be approaching the Westernmost Sea. But then they crested a ridge and realised that in front of them were... Trees.

Many, many trees.

Most definitely not sea.

Feedback is good for my soul....
