And the ship's come round
And she's waiting at the harbour
Be prepared to get on board
Be prepared
I never knew that the light of ages
Breaks the way before us
Sail away. Sail away…

Please do point out any errors or places where it doesn't read right.

Also - were the quotes from Runrig a bonus or a distraction, or did you not notice them? Did anyone click on them and actually listen to the music? Just curious.

Actually, please just say if you were reading! Yes - I am pathetically in need of reassurance.

This is the next to last chapter of the story I wrote for the Tolkien Big Bang - I will post the last one next week.

Chapter Seven – Don’t Tell Me That We’ll Never Meet Again

The Thai food D-d cooked last night was pretty damned good, by the way.

So - after the last chapter that mostly featured Tindómë giving the twins a good talking too, this chapter mostly features Legolas, Galanthir and Haldirin.

Chapter Six, in which Haldirin is reminded of an incident long ago...

PG, 3,700 words, etc. and it is under here )

Again - please do tell me if the links don't work or you spot a typo etc.!

Next chapter is here.

I have lots of nice pictures of my daughter and her holiday to share - but I need to resize and upload them.

But I have been given a wonderful gift by [livejournal.com profile] wildecate - she has made me beautiful banners and illustrations for the Returnverse stories.

Look! )

Don't I have talented friends?
curiouswombat: (BigBang)
Here is the next chapter of the story I wrote for the Tolkien BigBang, before I archive it at the usual sites. In this chapter our heroine gives someone - or someones - a rather stern talking to!

If the link to the music isn't working can someone point it out for me? Last time it worked fine for me - but not for anyone else; which had, S2C thought, something to do with me being logged in to YouTube when I did the link.

Chapter Five.

This is the next chapter of the Big Bang story that tells of the time between the death of Aragorn and Legolas and Gimli sailing west. In this chapter we see a midsummer celebration which brings its own problem for Legolas.

Art work as usual by the wonderful Ellynn Ithilwen

OK - you asked for it!

And lo! Here it is. Tindómë wondered just what Galanthir might do to keep Legolas from melancholy on the night after Aragorn's funeral... and a couple of other people said that they wondered, too...

Another chapter of the story that tells of Legolas, Gimli, and a few others, preparing to leave Middle Earth and sail West... This is the chapter in which we are reminded that Tindómë was once known as Dawn Summers - and we see a scene from the epilogue of 'Return of The Key' from the other side of the screen, so to speak.

Chapter Three – She Once Meant the World to Me

I saw her again last summer
Where the hard rains fall
The grass grew long around her feet
Where the years took their toll
She once meant the world to me
But we by-passed destiny
On the road not taken
The road unknown

Someone asked me about Legolas' saying "...Galanthir will keep me from melancholy, nethig, Rumil; I will see you at breakfast.” in the last chapter - they wondered just how Galanthir might have kept him from melancholy. It sparked off the muse and I found myself writing what happened in Legolas' rooms as Galanthir kept Legolas from melancholy. My question is do you think I should post it over the next couple of days - so that it is not long since the relevant chapter, or wait until the whole story is posted?

ETA - that scene is now written and can be found here.
curiouswombat: (BigBang)
Here is the next chapter of the story I wrote for the Tolkien Big Bang. Those who attended WriterConUK might be interested to know that I used music all through this story - I chose to use the music of Runrig for each chapter and put not only a verse of the relevant song but also a link to it, so that you can listen as well as read.

Had I not gone with the works of C&R McDonald all the way through there is another well known song that has a very relevant line in it as well - I will mention which song I mean at the end - although some people might well realise which song as they read.

On to chapter three.

I will post more about 'What I did on my Holidays in Coventry' soon - honestly.

And, as promised - here is the first full chapter of Dust. For anyone who doesn't understand the title... I'll explain it much later if you still haven't worked it out!

Chapter One; The Precious Years are Gone
Word Count 2,560
Rated PG
Warning - character death - obviously!

Chapter One; The Precious Years are Gone )

Chapter Two is here
curiouswombat: (BigBang)
This is the story I wrote for the Tolkien BigBang! It is completed in a prologue and eight chapters - a total of about 27,500 words - illustrated by [livejournal.com profile] ellynn_ithilwen. I will post both Prologue and Chapter One tonight as the Prologue is, by the nature of things, short!

The verses at the beginning of each chapter are from the songs of Runrig. Here on my journal I will try, as far as possible, to actually link each one to the song on YouTube so that you can hear it.

I have left the chapter end notes that were written for anyone who had not read the earlier stories.

Summary - Tolkien tells us that, after the death of King Elessar, Legolas built a ship and sailed West, accompanied by Gimli. This is a story of that time, a time of mortal deaths, preparations... and The Key.

On to Chapter One, The Precious Years Are Gone.
curiouswombat: (BigBang)
Today was 'reveal' day for the Tolkien BigBang stories - there seem to be twelve in so far and another one or more to come. Every story is a minimum of 20,000 words long - so some really good reading in store I think. The list is Here - the stories are all on the archive associated with the community that organised it - the links take you there.

I think I will also post my story here over the next few days - along with the artwork done for me by [livejournal.com profile] ellynn_ithilwen - and if you want to start reading before I start posting here, you can find chapter one HERE.

Today, though, I just want to share another piece of art made for one of my stories.

Last summer I wrote In The Winter Garden for the plot-without-porn challenge. This weekend, along with finishing her own BigBang story (which is an excellent mystery which I would thoroughly recommend!), [livejournal.com profile] ningloreth found time to make me a banner for it. I've added it to the story as above at Plot-Without-Porn, and at Twisting the Hellmouth, but just want to put it here, too - to gloat over it...

Those who remember the story, starring Dawn/Tindómë and her small son, Haldirin, and inspired by a photo I took myself, will appreciate how neat this is -
