Cake under Construction
2 Apr 2014 10:33 pmTomorrow is D-d's birthday. We are going out for a meal and so she won't be home to have cake.
But during conversation on Sunday, when she took me out for lunch, I managed to volunteer to make her one to take to work with her. And then there was this, well it was more a pattern than a recipe, that I wanted to try...
So under the cut is a step by step of cake construction. ( Read more... )
It's a good job I did it last night - my back is playing up this evening and I really wouldn't have had the patience.

Cookie Cutters and Card
7 Jan 2014 09:29 pmI said to someone I would post a picture of the birthday card from my daughter - and I promised
the_winterwitch I would show her what 'a set of Isle-of-Man specific cookie cutters' looked like - so - card -

and inside it -
And now the cookie cutters from my niece -

There is a Manx cat, a three legs of Man, and a map of the island (which is upside down in the packet).
I think the three legs one would be difficult in actual cookie as the legs might easily snap - but it would look good on the top of a cake...
I've just been putting all the tree decorations away - Christmas is officially over. I meant to count all the crystal ones - but forgot once I got to forty-something. Next year I'll count them, honestly!

Birthday Thanks.
29 Dec 2013 04:24 pmThank you to everyone for the birthday greetings, gifts to my journal, e-cards and hard-copy cards that I received yesterday. I really do love that my birthday gets so much more celebrating since I joined LJ.
S2C bought me the Blu-ray mega extended boxed set of Lord of the Rings - this should keep me occupied for a month or two. D-d gave me a beautiful new jumper and also took me out for afternoon tea to celebrate properly.
And there was a bracelet from my Mum, a very, very, nice silver and grey scarf and some black and silver glass earrings from
dougalsservant, and a couple of other bits from a couple of friends.
Afternoon tea was very good - just the two of us as S2C had just had his first shift back at work and was in bed asleep.
Fist came a selection of sandwiches served with crisps and a good, mustardy, potato salad.

And then came scones with jam and cream, mince pies, and Victoria sponge;

I know I look a bit worried in the background there - I always do when someone else has the camera!
So - a day well celebrated.

D-d's birthday.
3 Apr 2012 09:13 pmDaughter-dear is 24 today. It doesn't seem that long since I was writing on my journal about her going to visit her Australian grandparents in her school holidays...
She came home for her dinner tonight, to pick up her presents, and to have cake. You can't have a birthday without cake and candles, after all.
S2C had bought her a new laptop, I owe her a new desk chair, she just hasn't found one she likes yet, and so I bought her a couple of small things to open on the day.
But mainly I cooked fajitas (one of her favourite meals) and cakes.
I thought you might like to see ( the birthday cakes )

Quick check-in post.
30 Dec 2011 11:41 pmJust a quick post to say a big thank you for all the birthday greetings, e-cards and the gifts for my user-page for my birthday.
I got a new MP3 player from S2C and I've spent time transferring music files, and some of my pictures, onto it. D-d took me out for lunch to the creperie near her office - and very good their buckwheat galettes are, too. She gave me a new book to write my favourite recipes down in as the current one has got so many things spilt on it over the years that some of the recipes are really unreadable - and so I have spent time writing recipes into it.
For Christmas, of course, S2C gave me a kindle - and I've been busy putting books onto it... and D-d gave me a new sewing basket and I have been busy sorting everything out of my old one and putting things into the new one. We seeing a theme here?
Also I've been up to Mum's to collect the goose for New Year, and done a bit of shopping - and spent hours reading to my great pleasure.
Pity I haven't got far with the essay I'm supposed to be writing, or the portfolio of evidence of learning... ah the joys of continuing education!

Thank you so much for all the e-cards, gifts to my user page, and birthday greetings that I received for yesterday - I really appreciated each and every one of them.
I had a lovely day - coffee in bed, a lazy morning, before D-d, her friend, and I went to see 'The Voyage of the Dawn Treader' at an early matinee. I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it - it was great fun. In the evening S2C, D-d, and I went out for a very good dinner at Views in our local park. Not that we got much of a view of the park in the dark!
All in all a good day. Today, now I know what I got for my birthday as well as for Christmas, I was able to go and shop in the sales - with quite a lot of success. And no work till next week - hurrah!
Almost forgot to mention that preferred television over the holiday for D-d and I has been the new Upstairs Downstairs - we recorded last nights final episode and sat and watched it this afternoon after hitting the sales.
Now to finish writing the small Christmas story - it really shouldn't take me long.

Here's wishing you a wonderful day, and a really good year for you and all the family.
(For some reason this looked perfect on my computer when I first posted it, but didn't on S2C's - so this is a second attempt, in case you all had the same effect that he did, rather than the effect I had!!)
ETA - it still looks fine on mine, and he still cannot read any of the lettering - out of curiousity - can YOU see the greeting, or a load of code? Could you, any of you, let me know?
OK - I have taken the pretty letters away - you'll have to imagine pretty pink greetings dear!
