Thank you so much for all the e-cards, gifts to my user page, and birthday greetings that I received for yesterday - I really appreciated each and every one of them.

I had a lovely day - coffee in bed, a lazy morning, before D-d, her friend, and I went to see 'The Voyage of the Dawn Treader' at an early matinee. I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it - it was great fun. In the evening S2C, D-d, and I went out for a very good dinner at Views in our local park. Not that we got much of a view of the park in the dark!

All in all a good day. Today, now I know what I got for my birthday as well as for Christmas, I was able to go and shop in the sales - with quite a lot of success. And no work till next week - hurrah!

Almost forgot to mention that preferred television over the holiday for D-d and I has been the new Upstairs Downstairs - we recorded last nights final episode and sat and watched it this afternoon after hitting the sales.

Now to finish writing the small Christmas story - it really shouldn't take me long.

And shopping the sales is always fun.

I got a couple of nice warm jumpers (sweaters I think, to you!) - and some sandals for the summer - as well as my Mum's birthday present, as it is her birthday next week!

Thank you - it has plus points and minus points. The whole year's celebrations are squashed into a week - but I am usually off work for it.

I'm soooooooooooo glad you had such a great birthday.

I'm keeping all my fingers crossed the new Upstairs Downstairs is made into DVD because I so want to see it.

When I was younger my birthday was always a bit of a let-down because it was so close to Christmas - so many people seemed to give me 'one present to do both' - even though my sister would get just as good a present, and then one for her birthday in August, too. S2C and our daughter have always made a point of celebrating my birthday. It is so nice when people wish me a happy birthday, even now that little girl who hated her Christmas-time birthday expects everyone to forget it...

The new Upstairs Downstairs was really good - well we thought so - I do hope it comes out on DVD for you.

I thoroughly dislike when people do that, and we've always made it a point to make certain Bojojr has never felt that from us--although he has from other family members. I realize this time of year is busy and expensive, but it's unfair to children to slight them simply because they had the misfortune to be born in December!

although he has from other family members.

Yes, it was the great-aunts and people like that who used to do it to me, too. My father had his own variant, though; he was often so desperate to see my face when I opened my present, chosen with care, that he would suddenly appear, about 3.30pm on Christmas Day, with one in birthday paper saying "Here - you might as well open this one now, too!"

I have a feeling this was probably done without asking Mum - who might have told him to wait until it actually was my birthday... As a small child it was a real thrill to suddenly get an extra present mid-afternoon - when I reached the age of eight or so it occurred to me that this would mean nothing to open on my birthday - but he couldn't understand why I might not want to open it, and would keep insisting...

My birthday presents from most people, these days, are put under the tree with the Christmas ones - and I can sit and gloat for three days over the fact that I have presents to open on the day! That little girl is still there - not very far under the surface, even if well covered with fat.

It seems to me that the little girl in me that I didn't experience in my youth--I was such a serious, old soul--has emerged full force and will have her amusement and merrymaking. I'm still very responsible, but I take delight in celebration.

Isn't it lovely that your birthday now is celebrated as it should be.

I have a couple of friends who were born on Christmas Day, and they all complained about the same thing.

I can't wait to see the new Upstairs Downstairs.

Don't worry at all - I am not good at remembering birthdays myself. Going to the lunchtime showing of Dawn Reader was such a good way to spend some of the day, too.

Have cake...

I was very pleased - two winter jumpers, a more spring/autumn type top, a dressing gown that matches one of the nightdresses S2C got me, and a pair of my usual work sandals; all from M&S!

Thank you - I missed chunks of the original series as I went to university before it ended. I wonder if there will be more of this new version?

Belatedly, Happy Birthday! I am annoyed with myself for missing it because I did know it was coming up - but have had a couple of days completely off LJ, and am in that stage between Christmas and New Year when one completely forgets what day of the week/date it is...

Glad you had such a lovely day, anyway - and have fun hitting the sales!

Don't worry - having a birthday in the time out of time between Christmas and New Year makes it very forgettable, even to family!

The sales produced a couple of woolly jumpers, a summer-weight nightdress, and some of my everyday work sandals from M&S - a good haul.

'Dawn Treader' was certainly a good way to spend some of the day.

Awww, I forgot! Happy belated birthday!

Sounds like quite a lovely day indeed, and much deserved.

A new Upstairs Downstairs? It would be interesting to see how it compares with the original--I suppose it will find its way across the water sooner or later.

One of my cousins had a birthday this time of the year, and my Mom and I always tried to remember it--as you say, it was easily overlooked. I've heard of people celebrating their December (near Christmas) birthdays in the summer for that reason.

Thank you - it really was a lovely day.

The new Upstairs Downstairs was just three one hour episodes - written by Eileen Atkins, one of the original writers, both she and Jean Marsh were also in main roles in it. We really enjoyed it.

As for celebrating a Christmas birthday in the summer - I remember, at the age of about ten and a half, attempting to do just that!

Sorry I missed the actual day, but Happy Birthday anyway!
(In my family, belated wishes etc just mean your birthday is so extra special that it's extended by days and days.)

Thank you. I like it when cards, gifts, greetings, tun up late - it really does help make the celebration last longer.
