curiouswombat: (Sulamith Wulfing)
In a writer's note to the story No Greater Love, MJ said The descriptions of the elaborate ceremonial robes and the procession to the Great Hall were in part inspired by the artwork of the illustrator Sulamith Wülfing, which often depicted a juxtaposition of intricately dressed living people with ethereal spirits. She and Arthur Rackham are among my favorite illustrators, and if my descriptions sometimes wax poetic, you may often blame one of them. :)

And I was suddenly transported back to my teens and twenties when I had two favourite posters by Sulamith Wülfing - and I had since forgotten her existence completely.

So I had a wonderful evening reacquainting myself with her work - and wanted to share it with others who may have forgotten similar posters, or have never come across her work before. I have gathered just a few of my favourites together here at photobucket, and have put some of them under this cut - Beware, large pictures.... )

if you like them, there are more in my photobucket - as above - I'm pretty sure it is set to public, but if you click it and can't access it please let me know!

Some pretties... and some words to go with them.

This was my recognition that I took part in a comment challenge -

Now it really wasn't hard to actually comment as I read some good, well written, fics; and it was a real pleasure, also, to receive comments. So I would urge you to take the time, when reading, to say you enjoy the story - even if that is all you say. Wondering about a source of good reading to comment on? Then you could do a great deal worse than to look at the nominees for these -

2013 Tree and Flower Awards

Many Paths to Tread is a smallish (but growing) Tolkien archive, where I mainly archive my drabble sets, and so I am really pleased to say that I received nominations in

Favorite story featuring Men for First Spring.

A year in the Walled Garden and Family Ties were nominated in the actual drabble or drabble series category.

Then Cautionary Tales for Little Hobbits was nominated in Favorite Humour Story, and in Favorite characterization of Gandalf, Learning Process was nominated.

Finally The Making of an Heirloom was nominated in Favorite characterization of Legolas.

Links to the stories, and the voting polls, can be found HERE - go and enjoy some very good reading.

Isn't this beautiful?

It is a 'visualisation of world-wide flight paths.

And, for something completely different, I just love this story, about a planned EDF demonstration at a tiny York mosque, immensely. For non-Brits, the EDF is a rightwing, semi-facist, organisation who are currently making a lot of anti-muslim noise...
