Weary wombat.

I am weary - I even fell asleep briefly whilst watching the Olympics - but actually it's been a rather nice day.
It was a family service at Church this morning - the theme was winter, and we had made some paper 'snowflakes' at Sunday School last week, augmented by a few more D-d and I made at home, which we strung across the back of the Sanctuary (which is covered with blue velvet curtains), and across the front of the pulpit. The lady who had done the flowers had done beautiful wintry arrangements, and then the final touch were 'icicles' across the front of the Communion table, and the lectern. D-d made these for me, out of scrumpled up sandwich bags cut into spiky strips, with the odd sprinkle of glitter - and they were amazingly realistic, people kept complimenting 'the children' on them, and I had to keep pointing out that actually D-d had done them. It was a lovely service.
Then we watched the Men's Half-pipe whilst we ate dinner - D-d loves the snowboarding.
So not enough there to wear out a wombat - but then I went bowling. With some of the youngsters from Church. And I have now got a sore shoulder, and sore hips - I really ought to do it more often, so that I wouldn't ache, as actually I really enjoy it!
Then we went to the chip shop for a meal - three teenagers, one five year old, the other two 'teachers' and me - one of the younger bowlers having a prior engagement and having to give the meal a miss.
I'm not sure what the Chinese lads who were working in the chip shop made of a party where two had 'pensioners specials' (Gillian having pointed out that both her and Ishbel officially qualified!), one children's special, and four adult meals! And very nice the fish and chips were (English chips = fat chunky American fries).
The bowling wasn't really that strenuous - I shouldn't really be so tired - maybe it was the sea air (Our bowling alley is right down on the sea-front) and the enormous amount of carbohydrates I ate!

Date: 12/02/2006 09:55 pm (UTC)I *always* manage to strain something when I bowl with the Princelings. I think you are right; if I did it more often I would hurt less.
I'm guessing that "pensioners" = "seniors" in American. As in 'senior citizen (over 65?). And I love English chips. My boyz like the skinny McDonald's type but they are young yet. ;)

Date: 12/02/2006 10:18 pm (UTC)Yep - only women officially become pensioners at 60 - which is how Gillian and Ishbel both sneaked under the wire!
The icicles were so clever - I would have used Bakofoil, which would have been much less realistic - but the clear plastic worked so much better - scrumpling it up first just meant that the light caught them so much better.
I hope your poorly princelings are feeling better.

Date: 13/02/2006 05:10 pm (UTC)Haven't watched much of the Olympics so far, although I did catch some of the speed skating whilst waiting for Top Gear to start yesterday. I really enjoyed their Winter Olympics though, and haven't laughed so much in a long time as I did at first James May and then Richard Hammond struggling (and failing) not to fall down the snowy slopes. And the mini-barrier bit was priceless. Little things were pleasing me last night, because we watched the awful 'Petrolheads' quiz that followed, and that had me in stitches too - and no, I hadn't been drinking.

Date: 13/02/2006 11:49 pm (UTC)This morning I was watching women's curling. I found, thanks to "Men with Brooms", that I rather like curling. It seems graceful and a bit hypnotic to me. (I think others may translate that to "boring". *g*)
Hope you feel refreshed today!
