I am weary - I even fell asleep briefly whilst watching the Olympics - but actually it's been a rather nice day.

It was a family service at Church this morning - the theme was winter, and we had made some paper 'snowflakes' at Sunday School last week, augmented by a few more D-d and I made at home, which we strung across the back of the Sanctuary (which is covered with blue velvet curtains), and across the front of the pulpit. The lady who had done the flowers had done beautiful wintry arrangements, and then the final touch were 'icicles' across the front of the Communion table, and the lectern. D-d made these for me, out of scrumpled up sandwich bags cut into spiky strips, with the odd sprinkle of glitter - and they were amazingly realistic, people kept complimenting 'the children' on them, and I had to keep pointing out that actually D-d had done them. It was a lovely service.

Then we watched the Men's Half-pipe whilst we ate dinner - D-d loves the snowboarding.

So not enough there to wear out a wombat - but then I went bowling. With some of the youngsters from Church. And I have now got a sore shoulder, and sore hips - I really ought to do it more often, so that I wouldn't ache, as actually I really enjoy it!

Then we went to the chip shop for a meal - three teenagers, one five year old, the other two 'teachers' and me - one of the younger bowlers having a prior engagement and having to give the meal a miss.

I'm not sure what the Chinese lads who were working in the chip shop made of a party where two had 'pensioners specials' (Gillian having pointed out that both her and Ishbel officially qualified!), one children's special, and four adult meals! And very nice the fish and chips were (English chips = fat chunky American fries).

The bowling wasn't really that strenuous - I shouldn't really be so tired - maybe it was the sea air (Our bowling alley is right down on the sea-front) and the enormous amount of carbohydrates I ate!

Your 'winter wonderland' for church sounds lovely. D-d sounds very 'crafty'.

I *always* manage to strain something when I bowl with the Princelings. I think you are right; if I did it more often I would hurt less.

I'm guessing that "pensioners" = "seniors" in American. As in 'senior citizen (over 65?). And I love English chips. My boyz like the skinny McDonald's type but they are young yet. ;)

Yep - only women officially become pensioners at 60 - which is how Gillian and Ishbel both sneaked under the wire!

The icicles were so clever - I would have used Bakofoil, which would have been much less realistic - but the clear plastic worked so much better - scrumpling it up first just meant that the light caught them so much better.

I hope your poorly princelings are feeling better.

I wish the snowflakes and ice around here was pretty paper kind.

I guess ours was less cold, and less slippery - but I have to admit to loving snow - probably because we get it so rarely.

Your timing was impeccable - I was all nicely tucked up about five minutes after you posted, and still felt hard of getting up this morning.

I have to say that I heartily agree with D-d on the snowboarding, and heartily agree with you on the chips. The fatter and chunkier they are, the better I like them. :)

We are particlarly looking forward to one of the women's snowboarding events - a downhill or giant slalom type thing I think - where the Isle-of-Man has a competitor. She competes for Great Britain, as we are not recognised as a country in our own right by the IOC - but Zoe Gillings is definitely one of us! (Which is pretty good for a little island which hardly ever gets snow!)

That's very exciting! I remember watching women's speed skating as a kid because the favorite was from our state. (The one we were living in at the time.) It gives you kind of a proprietary feel about the sport.

It does sound like you had a full and fun day -- I'd be tired, too. And for some reason, I'm now craving fish and chips. (Your kind, not ours.)

There is something very comforting about a nice big piece of cod in a really crisp batter, just out of the frier, with chips - and tomato sauce/ketchup. It probably has enough calories to keep a small African country fed for a week - but fish is so healthy after all!

Well, fish is healthy unless you cook it in batter and dip it in tarter sauce, like I do.
It's like popcorn -- perfectly healthy until you start adding things to it. :-)

Sounds like a lovely day, especially fish and chips on the sea front.

Haven't watched much of the Olympics so far, although I did catch some of the speed skating whilst waiting for Top Gear to start yesterday. I really enjoyed their Winter Olympics though, and haven't laughed so much in a long time as I did at first James May and then Richard Hammond struggling (and failing) not to fall down the snowy slopes. And the mini-barrier bit was priceless. Little things were pleasing me last night, because we watched the awful 'Petrolheads' quiz that followed, and that had me in stitches too - and no, I hadn't been drinking.

The Top Gear winter olympics were really good fun weren't they? Poor little shiny toothed Richard in the freezer though!

I know, I think he's turning into the John Noakes of Top Gear, the things they make him do.

Fish and chips sounds really good right now.

This morning I was watching women's curling. I found, thanks to "Men with Brooms", that I rather like curling. It seems graceful and a bit hypnotic to me. (I think others may translate that to "boring". *g*)

Hope you feel refreshed today!

I like the curling as well. Of course her in the British Isles we are cheering Rona Martin and her girls on - except that she always makes me think of Rowan and Martin! I was only very young at the time!!
