curiouswombatThe train journey from Glasgow to Mallaig should be classed as one of the great railway journeys of the world - it is absolutely breathtaking, and I am so glad that I decided to do that rather than bring the car. There are fantastic views of mountains, lochs, gorges, the sea - just wonderful.
The train is one where you need to sit in the right coaches, as the front two go off on a different route after about an hour and a half, and then the next two go a different way at Fort William, and so if you were unfortunate to be in the wrong carriage you could end up in Stirling or Oban rather than Mallaig! Some of the halts are so tiny that they only open one door of the train, as all the other ones are not in line with the platform!!
It is lovely to see D. again after all this time, we have sat and talked and drank wine all evening - if the typing is erratic you will have to forgive me!

I've done it myself and it's one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world :) Did they point out Bonnie Prince Charlie's Monument over the loud speaker? I found that very funny for a commercial train :)
