The train journey from Glasgow to Mallaig should be classed as one of the great railway journeys of the world - it is absolutely breathtaking, and I am so glad that I decided to do that rather than bring the car. There are fantastic views of mountains, lochs, gorges, the sea - just wonderful.

The train is one where you need to sit in the right coaches, as the front two go off on a different route after about an hour and a half, and then the next two go a different way at Fort William, and so if you were unfortunate to be in the wrong carriage you could end up in Stirling or Oban rather than Mallaig! Some of the halts are so tiny that they only open one door of the train, as all the other ones are not in line with the platform!!

It is lovely to see D. again after all this time, we have sat and talked and drank wine all evening - if the typing is erratic you will have to forgive me!

The journey was definitely a major part of the trip - although the ferry across seemed minute ny comparison with our own ferry!!

You could have phoned or e-mailed to let me know you'd arrived safely - finding out through LiveJournal wasn't optimal.

Signal on phone not optimal either Skye is not a good area for mobiles - and e-mail was bouncing - it was coming back from one computer to the other as undelivered. But as you spend most waking moments on LJ it was the easiest way to let you know, along with everyone else - as I could get onto the internet, just not e-mail!

That sounds like a lovely train journey - except I'd probably end up in the wrong carriage and end up somewhere I didn't want to be.

Glad you're enjoying your visit - wine is always of the good.

They kept checking our tickets to make sure we were in the right bit, and so it was difficult to get it wrong!

Wine is not only of the good - but plentiful!!

Hey you're about :) Glad to hear you're having a great time!
The train journey from Glasgow to Mallaig
I've done it myself and it's one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world :) Did they point out Bonnie Prince Charlie's Monument over the loud speaker? I found that very funny for a commercial train :)

No - our conductor on that bit seemed a bit less forthcoming than the one on the first leg! It should be advertised as on of the gret journeys, it was absolutely spectacular, but I wasn't sure that it would really photograph!

Wishing you much fun.

Having no idea what Skye was before you mentioned it, having done some on line research leaves me envying you. Have much fun.

It is one of the places I have always wanted to see - so my friend moving here was a spur to get here - and it is a lovely place.

Hello! I've been reading your fic '10 years after' and enjoying it immensely, and I noticed you'd snagged one of the Spawn icons I'd made, so I thought I'd say 'hello' *waves* and friend you so that I can keep up with further developments in the story etc!

Hope you're enjoying your holiday and it's not too rainy! Down here in the South today it's thunder and lightning and torrential rain! Don't you just love the British summer!!??

Hello - welcome - see - I can even go online in Skye! Thanks for the use of the icon - I think I snagged two - I have a feeling though that in my credit for it one of them has your name spelt wrongly - apologies!

The day before yesterday was unrelenting rain for about 24hours - today is sunny though!
