curiouswombat: (Curious Christmas)

It's been a busy day. But I had a lie-in, and S2C brought me coffee in bed at 9.30 - so I was well rested to start it.

I spent a little while this morning getting stuff together to make Christmas cards at Messy Church - much of it trying to work out where I'd put the bag with the Christmas ribbons, stickers etc. But I found it just as I was thinking I might have to have a trip to the craft shop - much relief!

D-d and I went and collected Mum earlier than usual, and had lunch with her at her local village pub, which was looking very festive, before taking her to do her shopping - and ours, of course.

We had to get back to Onchan, and then Douglas, earlier than usual as it was Messy Church at 4pm - so I dropped my shopping off for S2C to put away, took D-d back to her flat with her shopping, and then got to church just in time to set up. And it was an excellent session. Busier than it has ever been before - it really is growing.

Lots of cards were made - as were angels, snowman cakes, snowmen from paper plates, and felt tree decorations. We had a story about a grumpy shepherd, sang a carol, and then ate together - and there were so many people that our heroine who does the catering had to make extra sandwiches as the first ones were being eaten! I tidied up, and chatted, and ate 2 grapes - I left the food for the 'guests'!

It meant that I was glad to get home for my dinner. Then, whilst watching Strictly Come Dancing (and how hard to see one of them have to leave tomorrow), I began to write the Nativity Play so that I can give copies to those who need it tomorrow.

Mmm - I know - that was a bit 'seat of the pants'! Those of you who write fic for challenges, swaps etc, will recognise just how that deadline suddenly makes the writing flow! I finished it by 9.30, and it is going to be good - I think. But more of that next week. Oh - and then I prepared my Sunday School lesson for tomorrow. But it has been a really nice day, honestly.

I had intended to use a picture of one of the brilliant ornaments made by children at Messy Church but I accidentally took my camera without the memory card. This means that the pictures are on its internal memory - and I have no idea how to get them off it as I'm pretty sure I don't have a lead for this camera. Someone suggested that it is possible to transfer them from the memory to the card within the camera, but I have no idea how. Those pictures may end up just being lost for ever...

So here is a picture of some ornaments taken last Christmas, instead;

The Santas are some of my favourite Christmas things. They are known within the family as The Choir of the Unseen University because they look like a little row of Pratchett wizards!

Messy Church is such good fun - and it is a real joy that it is growing - we'll need to cater on a slightly larger scale soon!
