curiouswombat: (Curious Christmas)

It's been a busy day. But I had a lie-in, and S2C brought me coffee in bed at 9.30 - so I was well rested to start it.

I spent a little while this morning getting stuff together to make Christmas cards at Messy Church - much of it trying to work out where I'd put the bag with the Christmas ribbons, stickers etc. But I found it just as I was thinking I might have to have a trip to the craft shop - much relief!

D-d and I went and collected Mum earlier than usual, and had lunch with her at her local village pub, which was looking very festive, before taking her to do her shopping - and ours, of course.

We had to get back to Onchan, and then Douglas, earlier than usual as it was Messy Church at 4pm - so I dropped my shopping off for S2C to put away, took D-d back to her flat with her shopping, and then got to church just in time to set up. And it was an excellent session. Busier than it has ever been before - it really is growing.

Lots of cards were made - as were angels, snowman cakes, snowmen from paper plates, and felt tree decorations. We had a story about a grumpy shepherd, sang a carol, and then ate together - and there were so many people that our heroine who does the catering had to make extra sandwiches as the first ones were being eaten! I tidied up, and chatted, and ate 2 grapes - I left the food for the 'guests'!

It meant that I was glad to get home for my dinner. Then, whilst watching Strictly Come Dancing (and how hard to see one of them have to leave tomorrow), I began to write the Nativity Play so that I can give copies to those who need it tomorrow.

Mmm - I know - that was a bit 'seat of the pants'! Those of you who write fic for challenges, swaps etc, will recognise just how that deadline suddenly makes the writing flow! I finished it by 9.30, and it is going to be good - I think. But more of that next week. Oh - and then I prepared my Sunday School lesson for tomorrow. But it has been a really nice day, honestly.

I had intended to use a picture of one of the brilliant ornaments made by children at Messy Church but I accidentally took my camera without the memory card. This means that the pictures are on its internal memory - and I have no idea how to get them off it as I'm pretty sure I don't have a lead for this camera. Someone suggested that it is possible to transfer them from the memory to the card within the camera, but I have no idea how. Those pictures may end up just being lost for ever...

So here is a picture of some ornaments taken last Christmas, instead;

My camera leads work for either camera though they are diffrent makes so maybe a friend who has a camera lead could lend it to you to rescue your photos?

Thank you - that is a good idea.

I love the gold santas-- very cute!

eta: My camera has what I think is called a micro USB connection. At any rate it's a standard one, and even though I'm not sure where the camera cable disappeared I found another one that works fine. I think that cable belonged to an old bluetooth ear thingy. Might be worth checking cables!

Good idea - I'll have a look in the box of assorted cables tomorrow - and shirebound has just commented with instructions on how to get them from the internal drive tot he memory card that might also work. How wonderful is the Hive mind of LJ?

I found this tip online. Hope it helps!

"With the memory stick loaded in the camera, go to the setup menu. scroll down to the memory stick tool. Within the tool, scroll down to copy. Click ok and all images from internal memory are copied onto the memory stick."

Brilliant - thank you! LJ friends are the very best for this sort of thing. I'll try tomorrow when I am a bit more awake!

Once the memory card is put back in, there may be an option somewhere in a photo's options to 'move to card' (or, in the case of my mobile phone, I think it just says 'move').

Thank you - I will look properly tomorrow when I am more awake and alert. I knew the LJ Hive-mind would be able to help!

Sounds like messy church was a brilliant success, although I do wish you'd managed to eat more than 2 grapes. But isn't it nice at the end of a busy day to put up your feet and watch some television!

I do love those Santas... I remember admiring them last year.

I wouldn't worry about me only picking at the grapes - I'd eaten at lunch time, and I had a cooked dinner about 7pm, so I survived pretty well.

The Santas are known in the family as the Choir of the Unseen University because they look like a little row of Pratchett wizards!

Those are wonderful Santas!
I've never tried to get the photos off the camera memory. I have a few in one camera, just test photos form long ago, but will be interested to see what works for you.

I love your Messy Church sessions.

The Santas are some of my favourite Christmas things. They are known within the family as The Choir of the Unseen University because they look like a little row of Pratchett wizards!

Messy Church is such good fun - and it is a real joy that it is growing - we'll need to cater on a slightly larger scale soon!

I always love hearing about your messy church sessions. It seems that everyone has such a wonderful time. I think others have covered shifting your pics from the internal memory to your card pretty well, so I'll just let you sleep the sleep of the justly tired *hugs*

Messy Church is such fun - hard work, but fun. The first time we did it we had no idea how many might come - but there were about 12 children, with a similar number of adults - that was last Christmas.

It was very quiet for the first few minutes this week and we almost worried that there might only be 6 or 7 children - and then, suddenly, the room was full of noise and movement, there were 17 children, their associated adults, a gentleman visiting from another church who plan to start their own version... and it was great!

That sounds like a very productive and satisfying day. And husbands who bring coffee in bed are the best!

The coffee in bed is such a luxury! The day was busy - but good busy.

It is a regular thing - but only four times a year - which is about all we, as a group who run it, can cope with, to be honest!

Messy Church is a UK wide 'thing' run by churches of all denominations in all sorts of surroundings in all sorts of communities from village halls to inner cities. We do messy craft stuff for about an hour, have a story and a song, then share food together. There are some pictures of our sessions here (http://s467.beta.photobucket.com/user/StAndrewsURC/library/Messy%20Church).

Whilst your Father Christmas on your journal looked rather Gandalf, these guys are known in the family as The Choir of the Unseen University...

A very busy Saturday, but I see it was also a very good busy one. Image

Very cute Santas! They are Santas, right?

They are somewhere between Santas and wizards, I always think. They are now in their usual December spot on the mantelpiece - the first decoration to go up.

Glad your messy church went well - it's something that the Baptist chapel does in the village where Ellen goes to school but we've never been along.

That shortest santa is definitely worried about something!

You really should go to a Messy Church session - they all follow a similar format and so it should be fun.

The thing I love most abut the santas is that they are all individuals - and the little guy does always look as if he is a bit worried about the other three!
