I am feeling rather pleased as Ten Years After came second in the [livejournal.com profile] good__evil's 'Good Dawn' category - the pretty is under the cut, and when he has his next nights off I will ask the husband to put it onto the story on the Wombatzone. (I can't do it myself because I don't have a password to the site! As it is a small corner of his.)

ExpandPretty, pretty award )

In other news - Mother in Law has now moved on to the next leg of her trip - revisiting old haunts from her youth in Newcastle upon Tyne, although sadly without her sister, which was the original plan. And finally - I have been teaching all day today, the first day of a two day course, and something happened to me that has never happened before.

For those of you who don't know my profession, I am a Clinical Nurse Specialist - my specialism is Continence, and so this is what I teach.

curiouswombat: (Sorry)
I'm a bit embarrassed to mention this, but - any of my friends who are members of [livejournal.com profile] good__evil this is a reminder that the poll for the best 'Good Dawn' or 'Evil Master' fic is on. 'Ten Years After' is one of the contenders, which is why I went to see how the poll is going, and I was saddened to see that only 7 or 8 people have voted. This must be a bit disappointing for the moderators - so if you are a member, why not just nip over
HERE and cast a vote?

I have received a lovely present from Sandra aka [livejournal.com profile] myfeetshowit - a banner to illustrate 'Half a Sky of Stars'.

Then my lovely husband, whose website I have a small corner of, has put it in the right place for me.

Please, please go and look at the pretty!

'Half a Sky of Stars', beautifully illustrated.

Also - I seem to have found a subject of interest to lots of people with my post about cookies, biscuits, scones etc. - there are now 106 comments, including bits about biscotti, welshcakes and dumplings! Foodies just love to talk food, don't we?
curiouswombat: (written)
My husband, kind sweet loveable man that he is, has now done all the HTMLing for my little Xander post-Chosen fic. So if you would prefer to read it on the website, on nice restful-on-the-eyes blue/grey, you can do so - just click on the link -

Half a Sky of Stars.

PG13. 2,200ish words.
curiouswombat: (written)
I have been writing a bit of fan-fiction again. It is a short piece (2,200 words - only four pages), Rating 13, and it looks at what Xander was doing between 'Chosen' and my story 'Ten Years After'. Had I thought about it earlier I could have written it as part of [livejournal.com profile] ludditerobot's Africander Ficathon 'Scatterlings and Orphanages', as it is, it is more that I was inspired by that challenge, and also by my friend pgavigan a.k.a. [livejournal.com profile] averageshmoe wondering if I was going to do any more little character interludes like 'News From Heaven'.

So under the cut I give you ExpandHalf a Sky of Stars )

Feedback is as manna - but has less calories!

I'd just like to say a big 'Thank You' to whoever nominated my Willow Christmas fic 'News from Heaven' for an award at The 2006 Willowy Goodness Awards.

These are annual awards, voting for which begins on the first of Feb - I might be tempted to remind you again nearer the date!

If you know of any good Willow fic go over there and nominate - and it has links to some writers who are new to me so could be a good source of new stuff if this site is also new to you.
curiouswombat: (written)
Just a wee note to say that, despite lack of sleep caused by me tossing and turning and disturbing him, [livejournal.com profile] speakr2customrs has done all the complicated coding type stuff so that my Willow/Tara/other people Christmas story is now on The Wombatzone corner of his website. So if you want to read it without all the LJ stuff around it, it is here in nice easy to read print on pale blue -

News From Heaven

He has also spent much of his day off transfering my e-mail files and bookmarked files etc. over to the new computer, so it is beginning to feel like mine now.

The cat has just ventured over to rub himself on it, and try it out as a cat bed, so it is becoming properly established in the household. S2C has grabbed my camera and bravely taken a picture of this(bravely, because he has trouble relating to cameras - even though the digital is really just a little computer really!) - I'll get it from camera to journal tomorrow!
curiouswombat: (written)
This is a Christmas Eve fic - but I thought that some of you may be too busy to notice over the actual weekend - and I am becoming too much of a fan-fic writer - I crave readers!!

It is set after 'The Girl in Question', and features Willow. It fits well as a prequel to Ten Years After, as this is the Willow from that story, just a few years earlier!

So - News From Heaven.

Rated, 15 for sexual content.

First the pimping. If you want to read a wonderfully crafted story, beautifully written then you could do no better than to read "Just Another Irish Rose" by [livejournal.com profile] julia_here which is now completed. It is set in the 1860s, and stars Angelus and Drusilla on an ocean trip between Dublin and New York. It is 78 Chapters long, Julia has posted them regularly since February and I have eagerly awaited every one. I can thoroughly recommend this - and you can find Chapter One here -
http://www.livejournal.com/users/julia_here/19522.html

Other Chapters are in Julia's memories.

And my Ten Years After got the runner up spot in it's class at The Lie to Me Awards!

What a wonderful husband. [livejournal.com profile] speakr2customrs has given me my own little corner of his website, where you can now find Ten Years After in its entirity without wombling through my memories.

http://www.speaker-to-customers.me.uk/wombatzone/cwfiction.htm

And he did all the HTMLing stuff for me as well - now that's what I call a wonderful husband!
curiouswombat: (Ten Years After1 flame81)
A long time ago - well more than eighteen years ago, I remember finding out I was pregnant. The husband was really happy about it (well if not he gave a good impression!), but I was a bit apprehensive about telling my sister, and I was relieved when my mother offered to let her know for me. Why? Because although younger than me, she had been married for over five years, and trying for a baby for two or three of them, whereas we'd been married just over a year, and this pregnancy was unplanned, we had meant to wait until we'd finalised the sale of my old flat, sold the one we were living in and bought somewhere more suitable for a baby, but D-d didn't want to wait and lo and behold, here I was pregnant.

My Mother must have rung my sister quickly, because sister rang me within a few minutes, really happy to hear the news - and full of her own news, because she had only told Mum an hour or less before that she was pregnant herself! Suddenly I could be really excited, because my sister wouldn't feel that I had somehow beaten her to something without even trying!

Why has this come to my mind tonight? Because I won a pretty for Ten Years After!!

And can you imagine how awful I would have felt, if S2C hadn't just won at the RDAs? If I had won for my one story, without really trying, when he had been writing for so long? Although it was even more like sister and I - S2C also won at the Loves Bitch Awards -so I can Snoopy Dance, and go Squeeeeee as much as I like! And I am truly chuffed. Stunned as well, to have won something, and must say a big thank you to whoever nominated me, and to the Awards organisers. To look at my pretties (Yay MY pretties!!)

And congrats to [livejournal.com profile] bogwitch who got THREE pretties!! And to [livejournal.com profile] sockmonkeyhere who got a pretty for Canis Familiar, and [livejournal.com profile] myfeetshowit who I noticed there under her other name, and to all the other winners - go check out at

This is a frippery - a tiny thing - but it is a housewarming present for [livejournal.com profile] frimfram who I'm sure won't mind sharing it with her friend [livejournal.com profile] lillianmorgan who is also moving house and hoping not to miss any possible sequel to Ten Years After!

It is technically a double drabble - 200 words, certificate U, set in the TYA-verse.

curiouswombat: (Hmm)
It’s finished!

At last – here is the last chapter of Ten Years After! The whole story is 70,000 words, 142 pages, long, and it is finished.

Although there is plenty of room for sequels, and I’ve got at least one in mind.

And I would love feed-back, really, really! If only it’s an ‘I read it.’

So under the cut is Ten Years After, Chapter Twenty Two, in which a little time has passed.

Probably a 15, this chapter.

Life is quite busy. Tomorrow Daughter-dear and I leave the Island for four days - I know, I know, we're hardly back from our last trips, but the timing here was non-negotiable. I am attending a conference on the theme of Childhood Continence Problems, at York University.

Now York is currently the university D-d thinks she might most want to go to - but only from the prospectus because she's never been there - so she is coming with me to have a good look around and get the feel of the place.

Then we realised that Sheffield University has an open day tomorrow, and she thinks Sheffield might be quite good as well. So instead of travelling tomorrow afternoon, we are out on the first Sea-cat in the morning - the red-eye boat. Check in by 6.15am. Leave home at 6.00am at the latest.

Hopefully we are not away long enough for the husband or the cat to go into a decline!

We get home on Saturday, late afternoon. Then Sunday School starts the next morning, and we have to organise a Family Harvest Service for the next Sunday, make sure all the children know what they are doing, pick the hymns etc. And I would usually do a lot of the work over the next few days - only I can't, because I'm going to Sheffield and York! And so I should have got it done - but I haven't yet, so the next couple of hours might be a bit busy!

But I have been being productive - look! Chapter Twenty One is ready to read.

This chapter is a 15 or a 17 - depending on when your country of origin thinks kids can cope with sex - you have been warned!

Chapter Twenty One - in which our heroine discovers whether she is right about Spike and stockings....

Feed back is cool - like champagne on ice, with chocolate truffles really!

But I apologise in advance, because as I am going away first thing - in about eleven hours time - I will probably not get around to thanking you until I get home.

At the weekend I will post some more of D-d's Aussie trip pictures.

My holiday slowed me down - it's taken me a few days to get back into the swing of TYA, but here at last is Chapter 20. There will only be a few more to go - we're getting near the end now!

Tomorrow I might 'borrow' a few of D-d's Australia photos to share with my LJ friends - you have been warned!

This Chapter is again a 13 I guess.

I'm ready to get going on the next chapter later this evening - so it will be posted before D-d and I go off-island again next week to visit universities.

Here is the next chapter of Ten Years After – there will then be a slight pause, because I am off on my solo holiday tomorrow, leaving S2C and Shaka at home – so HE (husband not cat) should get some of his writing done, only that I’ve arranged for new carpet for D-d’s bedroom whilst she’s away, and it’s being laid whilst I’m away – so poor S2C will have to shift a lot of furniture out of the room, then back into it, on two of his days off!

I am on the boat to Heysham tomorrow morning, and then get a train to Glasgow, where I am staying overnight. Then I am getting a train from Glasgow which ambles all around the highlands of Scotland, arriving after five hours in Mallaig where I get a ferry to Skye and stay with my very old (long-standing rather than ancient!) friend for a week! Should be a really good break – I will take pictures!

So – to keep you going -

Chapter Nineteen, in which our heroine and her sister go shopping!

Still a 13 – no gratuitous sex – sorry!

I should have computer access whilst I’m in Skye – D has offered me the use of a computer as long as I bring an Ethernet cable – it is currently the only thing in my travel bag!! So feedback not only appreciated, but hopefully also responded to!!

Happy Wombat - I have another nomination for Ten Years After - at the Primordial Souls awards - Thank you so much - It is greatly appreciated! And I am in some excellent company - go see: http://www.primordialsouls.com/

Annoyed Wombat - I wrote the next couple of pages of TYA on the computer at work - coffee break! I e-mailed it to myself - and it hasn't arrived yet - it's the same ISP - it should have been almost instant, not hang around the ether for hours! So do I wait, leave it till tomorrow, or try and remember it and start again? Bleuch!!

D-d is having a good time in Australia - especially as she has spent some time with her aunt and uncle, who move faster than her grandparents! That sounds a bit mean, but at seventeen having to stay at the pace of mid-seventy year olds can be quite tiring in itself. She has been exploring Perth and Freemantle for the last couple of days, and sounds like she's having fun.

Here is the next chapter of Ten Years After – still a '13' I reckon.

Chapter Eighteen, in which our heroine’s sister learns a few home truths!

Real life is quite quiet at the moment – daughter in Australia and husband either asleep, eating or at work doesn’t make for a scintillating life! I called in at Marks & Spencer yesterday to buy food, and bought a rather nice dress off a sale rail for £12 – reduced from £49.50! And it looks pretty good on – so that’s the good news for the week so far!!

Oh, and I was teaching in tandem with my colleague who is a Urology Nurse Specialist yesterday. We were doing a study-day on Urinary Catheterisation, specifically of male patients. Poor M. was shaking at the idea of standing in front of a class of twenty to start with, and she had offered to do the bit where she demonstrated the procedure, on an anatomical dummy.

She carefully squirted anaesthetic gel down the dummy’s urethra, then explained that you now need to maintain a firm grip just under the head of the penis, and keep it vertical, to prevent the gel just coming straight back out; demonstrating by holding the dummy’s penis exactly as she described.

“You need to do this for at least three or four minutes,” she said, “and you can just fill the time talking to the patient, I usually just talk about anything that comes up!” Then she nearly died of embarrassment as the whole class of twenty, and me, burst into spontaneous laughter and applause!

Anyway, dear reader, for your delectation, if you’re following it, is the next chapter of Ten Years After – in which our heroine has visitors.
