curiouswombat: (Ten Years After1 flame81)
[personal profile] curiouswombat
A long time ago - well more than eighteen years ago, I remember finding out I was pregnant. The husband was really happy about it (well if not he gave a good impression!), but I was a bit apprehensive about telling my sister, and I was relieved when my mother offered to let her know for me. Why? Because although younger than me, she had been married for over five years, and trying for a baby for two or three of them, whereas we'd been married just over a year, and this pregnancy was unplanned, we had meant to wait until we'd finalised the sale of my old flat, sold the one we were living in and bought somewhere more suitable for a baby, but D-d didn't want to wait and lo and behold, here I was pregnant.

My Mother must have rung my sister quickly, because sister rang me within a few minutes, really happy to hear the news - and full of her own news, because she had only told Mum an hour or less before that she was pregnant herself! Suddenly I could be really excited, because my sister wouldn't feel that I had somehow beaten her to something without even trying!

Why has this come to my mind tonight? Because I won a pretty for Ten Years After!!

And can you imagine how awful I would have felt, if S2C hadn't just won at the RDAs? If I had won for my one story, without really trying, when he had been writing for so long? Although it was even more like sister and I - S2C also won at the Loves Bitch Awards -so I can Snoopy Dance, and go Squeeeeee as much as I like! And I am truly chuffed. Stunned as well, to have won something, and must say a big thank you to whoever nominated me, and to the Awards organisers. To look at my pretties (Yay MY pretties!!)

Well you can't argue with Tentacles as Most Extreme! Although you did say that The Raven Banner was likely to win more than things that you think are better - but I am really pleased to see you win something.

Very pretty indeed - and giving a fine view of Spike's cheekbones.

Congratulations!

Can any real human actually have cheekbones like that? Is he just holographically enhanced at all times?

Congratulations - even though I haven't read the whole thing, the bits I have sneaked a peek at were really good. I know it's not a squicky Spawn, so I just have to let go of my Spuffy prejudice for a while and let myself read. From all the comments to the story (and now the awards) I know it will be worth my while.

I'm not a big fan-fic-er, so that may be why, but I have a question...

What is/was the deal with Buffy and the Immortal? Who is/was The Immortal? Is that cannon and I'm just dumb and forgot? Can someone give me a summery and/or point me to the original cannon/fanfic?

thanks.

The Immortal appears - or rather, doesn't appear, because he is always off-screen - in the Angel Season 5 episode "The Girl In Question". He is, apparently, an old enemy of both Angel and Spike, and they are horrified to discover that he is Buffy's current boyfriend.

They take advantage of a legitimate mission to go to Rome to see Buffy, but a series of misadventures (intended to be comic, but in fact merely lame and embarrassing) mean that they never quite get to talk to her, although they see her across a crowded night-club (she, it seems, doesn't see them).

Eventually they give up, having been told by Andrew that Buffy is happy with The Immortal, and return to Los Angeles defeated and humiliated. The humiliation increases when they discover that The Immortal has completed their mission for them.

The misadventures that prevent Angel and Spike from being able to meet Buffy were forced upon Joss by Sarah Michelle Gellar refusing to make a guest appearance in the episode (because she was filming an excruciatingly awful movie) and many people believe that the distinctly unflattering storyline about Buffy and the amoral Immortal is his way of getting back at her for that refusal.

Congratulations! Sometimes I wonder about the award sites when I see who won and who didn't, but this time they got the awards JUST right.

Thank you for my congratulations as well. It was nice to come home to - this was actually a nomination left over from the last round because there hadn't been enough noms before. I'd almost (almost) forgotten about it!

Me too - sometimes it has a look of 'I'll give all the awards to my friends' on some of them! But when it's by vote that is less likely - even if there is something that you think 'Uh?' if it is a fairly run vote site you know that other people rated it even if you don't.

Thank you for the congratulations. The awards site has also brought me new readers - and I'm getting to be enough of a 'real' writer to be as pleased as punch every time I find a new reader!!
