For those who haven't been pointed at this already -
http://community.livejournal.com/lj_biz/237534.html

LJ are asking what sort of sponsored communities etc. we want.

Not do we WANT to let big business set up communities etc on LJ, you note!

[livejournal.com profile] mygothangel suggests we see how many pages of 'NO' can be generated.

Please go read the LJ biz post - say 'Yes Please' if you want to, but I am in agreement with the posters who start the comments with the phrase 'Slippery Slope'.

I know at the moment paid users can avoid adverts - but I am beginning to wonder how long for, when the owners of LJ are now selling actual journal type stuff to commercial bodies - and it annoys me - a lot. And if I was not a paid user it could well annoy me even more, so this is not me just going 'Hey - I pay for this.'

well I do have that GJ account from over the summer!

I put in my $.02 worth, and a quick glance saw that there were actually no "yes" votes. I suppose it's at least remotely possible that the talking heads will actually listen!

I have been over and registered my objection. While it could mean that only communities who can attract advertising get certain *benifits*, althought I have not liked any of their new additions, commuinities who do not attract adverts may be left languishing, causing a certain amount of censership.....Bad all the way

I don't see benefits at all. I have told them that the first time I get a spamming email from one of these communities who have done an interests search, I am out of here. And I mean it.

I objected as well and thank you for pimping the idea

I'm afraid that it all won't help at all - I agree with the most commenters: the deals are done, now they try to sell it to us (in a really bad and annyoing way)
but in the end? they will do it
they will make the smallest step back from the idea so the most users will say "oh, that's OK now" - like the last time

what annoys me most is the fact, they really think we are stupid

well, I have the GJ as well...
but it would be a pity since I don't believe all of my friends would go there

Ugh. That's just the most disgusting thing ever. They're basically trying to sell their users out as marketing research. WTF, LJ? o.O *commented most vituperatively & will pimp to my whole flist to do so too*

I have been made happy on several occasions that I could not afford a permanent account when I had the chance to get one. Now I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole. Now we are in a corporate no nipple zone. Grumps!

I've seen three posts on this all today, and we all agree. I'm actually surprised at how much everyone agrees. There's nothing like an active base -who remembers how things used to be, and used to be pretty good- to call on the bs. I'm keeping my eyes peeled and my hackles up for any further suspicious behaviour.

Been there, said no. Firmly. Possibly using words like "sucks" and "crap". LJ is ruining my vocabulary.

Also, see [livejournal.com profile] elsaf's lj for another suggestion.
