I am watching the BBC coverage of the Reading & Leeds Festival - as far as I can see it is 95% Reading - I haven't seen anything from Leeds even on the 'red button' options yet. Therefore I haven't spotted D-d and her friends. You think I would have no hope of spotting them amongst 65,000? Don't you believe it. Manx teenagers get all over the place - and they always take their flag with them! So in front of the main stage at Reading there are at least four distinct groups of Manx fans, as I counted four Manx flags in different places.

D-d has a flag with her the size of a single bedspread - although she took it without a pole, hoping to buy a spare tent pole when she got there, otherwise they will doubtless do what a group at Reading are doing with a matching one which is holding it above the heads of four or five of them. So, if they ever show any of Leeds, any smaller flags will be some of the other groups from the island, and any the size of a bedspread could well have D-d, Kitch, et al underneath it!

We play spot the Manxie whenever there is any big crowd on TV - the Olympics, check, saw at least three; the World Cup, check; Winter Olympics, check; Glastonbury, check; FA Cup final, check; Rugby World Cup,check - and so on. My UK friends, or indeed our friends worldwide, might now find yourselves playing along!

Oh, cool :-) One of those flags at Reading could well be my friend Ruth and her posse!

It's true, wherever you go there is always a Manx person about - we get everywhere ;-)

I hope your daughter is having a great time.

There were as many 3 Legs as there were St. George's crosses in the shots from Reading! And one which I recognised as either Guernsey or Jersey as well.

I am sure all at both venues will be enjoying themselves - all I know of D-d for sure is that she got there, and had got her tent up with no problem. The rest I will doubtless hear on Monday night when they get home.

I am shocked by the disgraceful pro-Reading bias. (Though it might have been connected to the presence of The Arctic Monkeys.)

Hope you spot her in the end!

As far as I can tell most of the bands play both venues - so the Kaiser Chiefs were playing their home town in Leeds today - they showed a five minute interview bit of them there - but the footage of them on-stage was yesterday in Reading. I think the presenter who said he couldn't be bothered going to Leeds when Reading was so much closer probably spoke for the whole BBC team!

I'm not trying all that hard to spot them mind you - only when there is a group on that I like!

It all sounds like great fun--both for D-d, and those watching.

Congratulations on your win at the Lie to Me awards!

Thank you - I haven't had any notification or any thing - so if it hadn't been for your post I wouldn't have known. I couldn't see anywhere on the site to pick up anything yet - or did I miss it?

Thanks - I have collected the pretty now - I'll ask S2C to put it onto the wombatzone (2http://www.speaker-to-customers.me.uk/wombatzone/cwfiction.htm2) for me. I maintain the church website - but S2C won't let me near the fanfic site - I don't even have the password!

I guess men have to have their own territory. We can't let them have the house! 8P

This reminds me: I watched The Libertine a couple weeks ago, and the "making of" featurette on the DVD talked about how a lot of it was filmed on the Isle of Man. This section included the obligatory shot of a large group of people, mostly teenage girls, cheering on the arrival of the filmmakers, here meaning Johnny Depp. Anyway, front and center in that shot (which may have been a very quick, kind of blurry shot) was a redheaded young lady who looked somewhat familiar -- is D-d into Johnny Depp? And was she into cheering on the arrival of filmmakers, especially ones who happen to look like Johnny Depp?

Good luck in spotting her. :-)

It wasn't D-d greeting Johnny Depp - but some of her friends were extras in the film. Being an extra is not uncommon occasional employment amongst our population of all ages, but none of my family have ever had a go!

I had to google the Manx flag, and I must say it is rather distinctive! *makes note to read the history of said flag someday*

It's why it's easy to spot amongst all the others. I don't really know why the triskele is our national emblem, but it has been for a very long time.

The motto 'Quoqunque Jeceris Stabit' is usually translated as 'However you throw me I'll stand' - which is true of the 3 legs, but is also very true of the Manx - we are all over the world, settled into every country. You find Manx surnames everywhere - I think the one who has risen the highest is Dan Quayle. Of course one of your Founding Fathers came from a family from the north of the Island - Miles Standish lived here, was possibly born here, and was married to two Manx sisters (sequentially rather than concurrently!) - I was at school with someone from the same farm - but his surname was English.

Your island is constantly interesting. I should read its history, or perhaps I'll glean it all from you.
