So - I was going to make a post that said that, much though I love him, my husband doesn't have a romantic bone in his body. I mean my Valentine card was an e-card sent five minutes before he came to bed in the early hours of this morning, and it didn't have hearts or flowers on - it had a Friends of the Earth squirrel!

Only when I got home from work tonight he had actually bought me some roses. Not real ones, but a rather sweet little silk arrangement of red roses in a red pot, with little silk red hearts. How romantic is that? Actually probably not very - I guess they will have to last for the next fifteen years or so - I think it was about that long ago that he bought me one red silk rose for Valentine's Day - and reminded me about it every year since until I think it got thrown out last year, as too tatty to keep!!

Still - the silk ones are beautiful - and are a much more lasting token of love! I might even take you all a picture of them.

Then when I logged onto LJ someone had sent me an anonymous virtual rose - you can see it on my info page. S2C says it wasn't him - so a big THANK YOU for my virtual rose to you - you know who you are! Even if I don't. What fun - a secret admirer!

You can't expect a virtual rose and a real imitation rose. (I got a card. That was all, but it is a sweet one.)

Your man has to be a bit romantic or he wouldn't write the sweet stuff as well as the fighty punny stuff - and he does. And I think the arrangement is a lovely idea. He's a treasure.

And I think the arrangement is a lovely idea.

Yep - it'll save him having to buy anything else for years - he can just point out that I've still got this one!

You're a cynic and a cruel, hard woman.

(And you know your man. *g*)

It's still a sweet gesture.

You did better than I did. To be fair though, we decided a long tine ago not to buy each other gifts for Valentine's Day, so I can't really complain. The roses sound beautiful. :)

We never get anything big - usually a card, maybe something small - I got him a card and a half-pound box of Lindor chocolates. The little pot of roses is really rather pretty.

That's so cool because you can take them out each February and remember! Happy Valentine's Day!

Yep - and it'll save him having to buy anything else for Valentine's day for years! The last one did - if I ever said how nice it would be to get given flowers, anytime of year, he would say 'You've still got the one I bought you for Valentine's day.' Even fourteen or fifteen years later!!

They are pretty though - they are o the mantelpiece in front of me even as I type, in place of honour.

LOL...not too shabby, really. At least a silk arrangement will last you longer than real roses. :)

Knowing S2C they'll have to - it'll be at least ten years before he bus me any new ones!! I love him really, you know!

I think I like the idea of roses that will last for awhile. Don't worry about the future -- just think about how romantic it was this time around!

Actually I rather like silk flowers - and they don't make anyone sneeze! But if I'd expected regular sweeping romantic gestures I would have had to marry someone else - good thing I prefer a man who can make me laugh, does a good chunk of the housework, and can sort out all our computer problems!

Then I'm the perfect man -- oh, sort out computer problems? Never mind, stick with the one you've got. :-)

I am lucky - he is a good husband, he has his foibles, but don't we all? I love him dearly.

I never get roses from my husband, because they make him sneeze. He sent me a virtual card ahead of time, but it was from a Polish site, so figuring out how to pick it up was a challenge. But he did pick out presents from my Amazon wish list instead of getting me a scarf or something else I really didn't want, which proves that even after more than 20 years, men can still surprise you!

I'm glad you had a good day.

One Polish card and a Friends of the Earth squirrel - the ordinary would be - well just ordinary! Aren't we lucky to havehusbands who can still surprise us occasionally after so long?

Absolutely! I much prefer mine to the ones on the tv commericals who make the extravagant but completely cliched gestures.
