My Birthday.
28 Dec 2005 09:59 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I have had a lovely day. I have been quite overwhelmed by all the lovely greetings from people here on Live Journal - my birthday usually passes almost un-noticed, being so close to Christmas, but certainly not today, even though poor old husband had to spend the day in bed because of night duty.
I have also got cards from family and one or two friends - and a wonderfully silly e-card from
keswindhover.
The beloved husband bought me something I really wanted - it had better be exactly as I wanted, because for the first time ever he gave me the money and told me to go and buy my own present - but buying a new digital camera is a 'feels right' thing - so I was really pleased that he sent me to choose it for myself yesterday! Yay! My old digital was a gift from him a long time ago - when they were very new, and it has done me well - but compared with the newer ones it is very limited, and it is getting a bit iffy, so despite sentimental attachment I am happy to have a new one - which will also have sentimental value! It is a Sony DSC-W5, and looks as if it will be good fun. There may be pic spam in the not too distant future!
I got a Kirsty MacColl CD, some ear-rings, and 'The Best of Mrs. Beeton' from my daughter, celtic silver ear-rings and matching necklace from my friend D in Skye, a photo-holder from my friend from down the road, then later in the day a set of lavender bath stuff and candles from my mother, a rather smart tweed handbag from my sister, and a Jamie Oliver flavour shaker from my nieces. A pretty good pressie haul!
D-d and I went out to a country pub for lunch - (the Hop Garden for those who know the Island) - we had a lovely lunch in front of a big open fire - it always suprises me that this particular pub is usually quiet at lunchtime, so we chatted to the barmaid, and made a fuss of the cat, and felt right at home.
Then we went sales shopping. We went to M&S, Dorothy Perkins and a few others yesterday before D-d went to work, but nothing appealed much. But today we went to Monsoon. We spent over an hour - had a wonderful time - it is one of those shops where you just don't usually shop at full price unless going to a wedding or similar - it is quite expensive. But they have a wonderful half-price sale - so I got a purple velvet skirt reduced from £90.00 to £45 and a green/black jaquard silk skirt reduced from £70 to £35. Still not extremely cheap, but worth it. And D-d got four lovely tops, again all at half price - so that's our Christmas money (and some in my case) spent. And we still haven't been to the sales at St. Johns - but hey! we are both off tomorrow as well...!
Then we did a bit of everyday shopping, and poor old S2C got a microwave meal courtesy of Waitrose (he likes their spaghetti carbonara so it wasn't that mean of me!), whilst D-d and I have grazed on cake, pastry, chocolates etc. all evening. (I'll probably suffer tomorrow - too much gluten in that lot, but I'll take some meds and grit my teeth - it's been worth it!).
Along the way D-d and I also watched the Muppets Christmas Movie, and a programme about Australian wildlife (During which D-d told the cat that he needn't worry - she wasn't going to swap him for a tree kangaroo, even though she wanted to!). We have played around with various settings on my new camera taking pictures of the cat, the daughter, the Christmas tree, and all in all it's been a lovely day.
A big thank you again to my LJ friends - I also got birthday fics from

Aren't they all fantastic?
And then
pfeifferpack found me some wonderful pictures of wombats HERE. I feel so much loved and cuddled that I haven't had time to notice that I am older - and greyer I'd swear - than yesterday.

Date: 29/12/2005 03:01 am (UTC)For Christmas, I received the 'Annotated Alice' and one the annotations reveals that the dormouse at the Mad Hatter's tea party is believed to have been modeled after the pet wombat of Dante Gabriel Rossetti, cofounder of the PRE-RAPHAELITES, a group of English painters and poets who hoped to bring to their art the richness and purity of the medieval period.
The wombat was noted for sleeping on the table.
Isn't that a marvelous bit of nothing to know?

Date: 30/12/2005 06:24 pm (UTC)For some reason, I did forget that it was my former neighbor's b'day as well this year. Probably b'cuz of the word 'former' in that statement. I always love her company when I see her, but it's rare the past couple of years.
OTOH, my friend Cathy's b'day is forever etched into my brain. Even though she doesn't live all that close and we only see each other a few times a year, it's one of those special friendships that you count on one hand.
