You know you are getting old when your daughter is adult enough to be asked by her best friend's father to ratify his new passport photo.
Also - you know you are getting old when an e-mail to said daughter receives an automated reply telling you that, if your e-mail is urgent, you can contact her secretary.
On the other hand she is still young enough to want to come around tomorrow for pancakes...

(So does mine.)
What does ratifying a passport photo mean?
Mmmm...pancakes!

Date: 03/03/2014 10:47 pm (UTC)It is, isn't it?
She is now one of the group of professionals that can certify a passport photo as definitely being the person it says it is. Advocates, doctor of medicine, and members of the clergy, basically!
Tomorrow we will feast on pancakes until we are stuffed!

Date: 03/03/2014 10:50 pm (UTC)I was amused to see a review of pancake mixes which said 'you only need to add milk and eggs'. It's a packet of flour, then?
But then, if you don't use flour much, I guess the right amount in a packet can be quite useful.

Date: 03/03/2014 10:46 pm (UTC)Fortunately my Mum doesn't know/use my work email address - I suspect she'd be completely thrown by an autoreply (though I don't have a secretary, if only - I just have to deal with my own email backlog whenever I get back from time off!)

Date: 03/03/2014 10:54 pm (UTC)She actually suggests using her work e-mail for a lot of stuff - she checks it more often. Although, in this case, I did it so it would be there for her when she got back, as it was about me not having a meeting tomorrow and so we could eat when she finished work, rather than waiting for my meeting to finish.
But I'm like you - mine just pile up until I get back.

Date: 04/03/2014 06:42 pm (UTC)We usually see each other about once a week, sometimes twice - with the odd e-mail, phone-call or text message in between. Not in each others pockets, but good friends!

Date: 04/03/2014 03:08 am (UTC)I like to eat pancakes rolled up with peanut butter and strawberry jam, but the usual at my house is butter and maple syrup. My Gran made her pancakes very much like you described, but she used buttermilk and a pinch of baking soda (and one of sugar), so I do, too. Mine end up a little thicker than those in the recipe picture, but not as fluffy as the usual American style pancake. I think it has as much to do with the batter thickness as with the soda, really.
Obviously, pancakes are something I can pontificate on... *g*

I reckon so, too - mine are usually a bit thicker than that - those are hardly more than a couple of mouthfuls!
I rather fancy the peanut butter option - I'd probably go with peanut butter and marmalade...
I'm still waiting for her to come around - but the batter is in the fridge ready to go.

Date: 04/03/2014 06:11 am (UTC)I use the same batter for pancakes as I do for Yorkshire pudding, one half cup flour and one half cup milk per egg and about one eighth to a quarter cup of water to lighten it up a little. I usually melt some butter to add to the pancake batter. I eat mine with sugar and lemon juice but B.H. likes peanut butter and jelly on his.
D-D has her own secretary, wow, how posh of her! well she will come in handy when you need new passports!
We are drying out nicely, but we could still use a lot more rain!

Here's wishing you some nice, steady, rain for a bit longer.

Date: 04/03/2014 06:53 pm (UTC)Oooh - French toast! I haven't had that, or cinnamon toast either, for ages. Something nice to make for the weekend, thank you for the reminder.
