You know you are getting old when your daughter is adult enough to be asked by her best friend's father to ratify his new passport photo.

Also - you know you are getting old when an e-mail to said daughter receives an automated reply telling you that, if your e-mail is urgent, you can contact her secretary.

On the other hand she is still young enough to want to come around tomorrow for pancakes...

I love the delegation of daughterly duties to her secretary! I had a daughter telling me I could keep her children's books if I really wanted to...

That really amused me - I've never had anyone I could call my secretary!

Kind of her to let you have her books...

That's what daughters will always do, no matter their age! :)))

But it's pretty cool to think of your daughter as having a secretary.
:D
(So does mine.)

What does ratifying a passport photo mean?

Mmmm...pancakes!

It is, isn't it?

She is now one of the group of professionals that can certify a passport photo as definitely being the person it says it is. Advocates, doctor of medicine, and members of the clergy, basically!

Tomorrow we will feast on pancakes until we are stuffed!

I bet the pancakes are going to taste to die for. Can you guess I'm hungry? *g*

Oh good - cheap instant pancake mix day approaches...

From: [identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com
Would that be Wednesday?

I was amused to see a review of pancake mixes which said 'you only need to add milk and eggs'. It's a packet of flour, then?

But then, if you don't use flour much, I guess the right amount in a packet can be quite useful.

I felt terribly old the first time it occurred to someone that as a professional librarian I was eligible to ratify their passport photos :-)

Fortunately my Mum doesn't know/use my work email address - I suspect she'd be completely thrown by an autoreply (though I don't have a secretary, if only - I just have to deal with my own email backlog whenever I get back from time off!)

From: [identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com
Yep - being able to ratify passport photos is definitely a sign that you have made it... :)

She actually suggests using her work e-mail for a lot of stuff - she checks it more often. Although, in this case, I did it so it would be there for her when she got back, as it was about me not having a meeting tomorrow and so we could eat when she finished work, rather than waiting for my meeting to finish.

But I'm like you - mine just pile up until I get back.

*hugs* I have no idea what "ratifying a passport photo" means, but whatever it is, I can imagine if it's making you feel old it can't be a good thing. ;o) Coming round for pancakes is lovely, though. And now I'm craving some... *g*

A passport photo must be signed on the back to confirm it is the person it says it is - and only certain professionals are able to do this for it to be accepted by the passport authority.

Tomorrow we shall stuff ourselves on pancakes.

It is rather fun to think she has a secretary - although I think she shares that secretary with another recently qualified advocate - and I know she relies on her secretary 'mothering her' sometimes.

We usually see each other about once a week, sometimes twice - with the odd e-mail, phone-call or text message in between. Not in each others pockets, but good friends!

My son came home from school for a few days last week, and he had a list of things he wanted for dinner. *g* Honestly, I hope that never changes.

I like to eat pancakes rolled up with peanut butter and strawberry jam, but the usual at my house is butter and maple syrup. My Gran made her pancakes very much like you described, but she used buttermilk and a pinch of baking soda (and one of sugar), so I do, too. Mine end up a little thicker than those in the recipe picture, but not as fluffy as the usual American style pancake. I think it has as much to do with the batter thickness as with the soda, really.

Obviously, pancakes are something I can pontificate on... *g*

It's nice when they come home and want favourite things.

I think it has as much to do with the batter thickness as with the soda, really.

I reckon so, too - mine are usually a bit thicker than that - those are hardly more than a couple of mouthfuls!

I rather fancy the peanut butter option - I'd probably go with peanut butter and marmalade...

I'm still waiting for her to come around - but the batter is in the fridge ready to go.

Oh, is it Shrove Tuesday tomorrow, now I understand B.H.'s remark about fish sticks for Fish Tacos and picking up some clam strips to finish them up with?

I use the same batter for pancakes as I do for Yorkshire pudding, one half cup flour and one half cup milk per egg and about one eighth to a quarter cup of water to lighten it up a little. I usually melt some butter to add to the pancake batter. I eat mine with sugar and lemon juice but B.H. likes peanut butter and jelly on his.

D-D has her own secretary, wow, how posh of her! well she will come in handy when you need new passports!

We are drying out nicely, but we could still use a lot more rain!

Huggs,
Lynda

I'm really lazy about Yorkshires - I buy them ready made! No Domestic Goddess am I...

Here's wishing you some nice, steady, rain for a bit longer.

I think she has half shares in the secretary - who probably helps them both to not get lost, as she has been with the company for a while. But certainly rather nice, to have a secretary!

That is very amusing.

I haven't made pancakes in a long time. When my daughter was little we would make pancakes or french toast regularly. Now I rarely make them.

It is Shrove Tuesday, and we are all rather traditional still - so a lot of households will be eating pancakes today.

Oooh - French toast! I haven't had that, or cinnamon toast either, for ages. Something nice to make for the weekend, thank you for the reminder.
