Tree Ornaments

After talking yesterday about tree ornaments some people asked for some pictures. So here they are
Here is the tree with its coloured lights -

And here is Archbishop Sentamu - who came from York, of course!

The meerkat in his Christmas jumper was a gift from D-d to her (meerkat-loving) father last year.

This gold bauble was one of the ones we bought when we got the bigger tree, about 15 years ago -

This is a crystal thistle which came from
dougalsservant, in Scotland, of course.

This crystal chorister came from Hexham Abbey -

This crystal drop also came from
dougalsservant

When I shared my first flat with friends, many years ago, when I was 20, we had a tiny Christmas tree and I bought some cheap foil angels for it. Over the years they slowly fell apart, and about 5 or 6 years ago I found new ones in our local garden centre. So although this isn't one of the original ones, it always makes me think of them.

kazzy_cee has some gold snowflakes like these too, if my memory serves me well.

And this is one of the first glass ornaments I ever had - it came from a shop called Legends, which no longer exists, and was bought because I thought D-d old enough not to break it and hurt herself.

This small brass angel came from the Christmas Shop in York one summer.

And the large angel we used to have was so heavy she used to tip the top of the tree over - so she went to the even bigger tree in church, and this one was a treat to me, from me, at our garden centre.

I think we have somewhere over 40 glass ornaments now, along with the gold and brass ones, and red and gold baubles. D-d and I greet them all as long lost friends as we unwrap them every year.
Oh - and a final picture - everyone should have a flashing santa pen to write their cards...

Not to mention a Christmas jumper with black, dalek-like, snowmen on it!

Date: 20/12/2013 10:21 pm (UTC)I do love my gold and glass ornaments - actually there is a picture of them here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/voirreys_pics/5339212761/) taken a few years ago as we wrapped them to put them away.

Date: 20/12/2013 11:08 pm (UTC)We've got a foil angel very like that one. I've had it for years so it might be like one of your original ones. There used to be two of them, but one got lost a few years ago but the other is sitting on top of our Christmas tree :)

Date: 20/12/2013 11:37 pm (UTC)We used to have coloured lights on the tree a good few years back - with a star light for the top of the tree. I think I quite like the coloured lights, too - but the plain ones probably show off the gold things better - I can't make my mind up!

Date: 21/12/2013 03:00 am (UTC)Of course one must have a blinking Santa pen, how else does one write Christmas cards?!
Kind of like the Dalek snowmen, Oh the very first Dr. Who so many, many years ago! How many incarnations has he been through?
Have to get off the nostalgia kick, time to dive in the fridge and find dinner and get to work on Christmas stuff!
Wish I was off for the next few days, I am working every day till Christmas and B.B. just told me he is having to work Christmas day but should be home in time for dinner!(Smart Kid!)

Date: 21/12/2013 10:52 am (UTC)We had an artificial tree that I can remember from when my sister was 2 or 3 - so early in the 1960s - it looked as if it was made of very large green pipe-cleaners and was about 3 feet high.
Christmas ornaments.
Date: 21/12/2013 02:37 pm (UTC)Up early this morning, only four more days to go, hope the back and the feet and the nerves can take it, I am getting closer and closer to my last one, nerve that is!
Enjoy your time off.
Huggs,

Date: 21/12/2013 10:54 am (UTC)And now, when I put up my tree, I will think of you when I put the gold snowflakes onto it!
Black, dalek, snowmen are certainly a fashion statement - of some sort!
