Summertime!

We have had a week of glorious weather - dry, calm, sunny, and warm for us although I know
pondhopper would think it cold! (We have had daytime temperatures of 16-22C.)
I spent a lot of the week helping do 'teas' at church for all our motorcycling visitors, and there are one or two pictures
Here are a couple of pictures of the crowds taken between races -

Some people simply basked in the heat between races -

And some people didn't bother much with the bikes at all, but sat in the sun and read -

The church gardens looked nicely green - after such a late, bleak, winter -

And people are very respectful of the remembrance garden and don't mess it up, but are grateful for somewhere pleasant to rest for a while.
And finally - here is our new minister, ministering ...

I'm not sure what she had said to the two gentlemen - but it seems to have made them happy!
But I think I mixed one to many cakes by hand, and carried one too many heavy things, as my left shoulder and arm became very painful and more or less non-functional. This has happened before - this is the third time in maybe 18 years and it is not only painful, but incapacitating as I am left handed. The worst problems are that it makes typing difficult - so no writing, and that it makes it impossible for me to sleep well - if I lie on that side it hurts, if I lie on the other side then there doesn't seem to be anywhere to put it comfortably - and the only place I can sleep much is, weirdly, on the settee. And this annoys S2C as he feels that if I am on the settee he needs to be very quiet, lower the lights, etc. - even though I tell him that I am so tired that it honestly makes no difference.
Last night I actually slept in the single bed in D-d's old room - this seemed to help a bit. And I have applied heat pads, taken regular ibuprofen, rubbed voltarol emulgel into it, and now have my mum's TENS machine... and, as you can tell by the amount of typing here, it is recovering. If the last couple of times are anything to go by it could be a week or two for it to get close to normal, but at least it is usable now!
And, as I couldn't bake or help at church yesterday, D-d and I went out to lunch, over at Niarbyl, and ate seafood salads whilst gazing out to sea - but I fear there are no pictures!

Date: 08/06/2013 07:00 pm (UTC)I am glad it is getting better now. Mum's fiance used a TENS machine on his back, and found it very effective.

The weather is lovely today, too - I think, after church, I might bask a bit!

Date: 08/06/2013 08:26 pm (UTC)I know how debilitating arm or hand pain can be (I have a tiny TENS unit also). I'm so glad you're starting to feel better.

Date: 09/06/2013 08:56 am (UTC)Yes - you'll understand exactly how annoying it is to not be able to type because it hurts.

Date: 08/06/2013 08:57 pm (UTC)I'm so sorry that you have RSI. I was put on a disability pension in my 50's, due to that. 10 years before I had learned Reiki, mainly to relieve back pain and eye strain, but it also helped the RSI. It is worthwhile to be able to do that, you can also help other people with it, but the nicest thing is that when you are working on someone else the energy will top up your own levels first, before transmitting to the 'patient'. I hope your arm heals quickly.
I think the pleasant lunch with D-d was well earned.

Date: 08/06/2013 09:14 pm (UTC)Your weather sounds like ours, though today isn't as sunny. The next couple are projected to be sunny and 75f/23c ish, but back to 50sf/teens-c & rain by mid week. It's been a good week to sit in my back yard with a good book!
And fun pictures!

Date: 09/06/2013 02:14 am (UTC)I read in my local Durango newspaper that there were some accidents at the TT.

Date: 09/06/2013 12:17 pm (UTC)TT week has been remarkably low on injuries this year - usually at least one or two of the thousands of visiting bikers manage to get themselves killed in accidents on the ordinary roads, but no-one has been even seriously injured... until the last day when, still, there were no major road traffic incidents - but some spectators were hurt when a bike went out of control and ended up in the crowd. Ten people were taken to hospital, four were immediately released after being checked over, one was kept in overnight under observation then discharged, and the other five have 'limb injuries' - mainly broken legs as far as I can tell. Fortunately the competitor, who came off at over 100mph, was just 'badly shaken with one minor injury'.

The weather does look lovely in the photos.
I'm so sorry to hear about the pain, though. RSI pain is among the worst kind. I've suffered with carpal tunnel and it is just insanely painful especially at night when it flares. Hoping you're feeling better now and it's lucky that you have access to a TENS machine to help.

Date: 09/06/2013 07:24 pm (UTC)The TENS does seem to help - and I have my heat pad, too, as well as the ibuprofen - I am basically doing everything I can think of!

Date: 09/06/2013 03:52 pm (UTC)You summer sounds lovely, like the Swedish summers I like so much. Hereabouts, we have a nice climate for growing things, but the agreeable temperatures for me are far and few; mostly it's too soon too hot.

Date: 09/06/2013 07:29 pm (UTC)Our summer temperatures never get very hot, being an island surrounded by the Irish Sea - so if we have a good summer it will stay at these sort of temperatures until September - we can but hope!

Date: 09/06/2013 04:43 pm (UTC)I had adhesive capsulitis in my left shoulder, not my dominant hand, and it took months of therapy before there were any results, mainly cause I didn't know what was wrong and took for ever to see the Dr!
Kind of gray at the moment, about 59' and cloudy.
