curiouswombat: (Summertime)
[personal profile] curiouswombat
I should have posted this picture the day I took it, but I got sidetracked.

This is what midsummer's day looked like, in the early afternoon, here on the island.

Midsummer in Port Erin...

There is actually a tower on that headland. Honestly. You can see it in this picture that I took a few weeks ago. But the mist was hiding it on June 21st.

I think it could be said that it was not quite summer solstice weather.

Secondly - front garden

But they are well contained and should not take over the whole area like their predecessor!

And thirdly - Shirebound was asking about childhood treasures and memories - I will post mine later - either later tonight, or tomorrow.

Heh, the fog shrouding the hills was making me all happy as I came home on the train.

And I can see a photogrpaher as well as two fuchsias in the second pic.

p.s. you have no lj cut for your pics at present.

The low mist is very much a sign of 'home' for me, too - but I think I might have preferred sunshine and a temperature above 11C for midsummer...

I have to admit to not bothering with the cut as there are only two pictures, but I guess there might still be one or two on dial-up - I will go and tuck the second one in.

The first photo looks autumnal or even wintery!
I like fuchsias a lot. They don't do well here. It's too hot!

It felt autumnal or even wintry, too!

Fuchsias do well here - they should settle and grow nicely, I hope.

I was trying to take photos of roses in the rain yesterday. At least it is very British!A wonderful view even in the mist.

'Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens...'

I think I would have preferred both view and roses to be sun-kissed in June, though!

Thank you. I have just got those two wee fuchsias, but I think they should settle well.

I like mist, it sets a particular mood. Lovely photo.

I do agree - but it was damp, cold, and felt like October - I could have happily waited a few months!

It might be too cool for midsummer but it makes for a lovely photo. Here we're nearly to 100F so a glimpse of somewhere cool is just the thing.

I keep offering to take a few degrees from my friends who are melting - but we don't seem to have perfected a way of e-mailing weather yet. Shame...

Midsummer was more like midwinter here and you look to have similar weather!

Can you imagine if we got 25C and bright sunshine for the winter solstice?

Wow and midwinter day here was sunny, warm and lovely. Go figure. The fuchias look great.

I have a feeling we got each other's weather!

The fuchsias should do quite well - I must remember to take a picture in a couple of months time to see if they've grown.

That first picture is so evocative. I can see it being a writing prompt and leading all kinds of interesting places.

It may not be a sunny day, but it's still obvious that you live on a beautiful island.

Thanks for sharing this.

It is so funny - I'm think 'Ugh! Mist, damp...' and then others, like you, remind me that it is very beautiful, even in the mist! Thank you.

I was more inclined to think 'Yuck! Mist, damp! Why isn't it sunny?' Now I look through your eyes and it doesn't look quite so bad!

It's nice to have plants that thrive in a certain area. Sunflowers are happy here, but their bloom doesn't last like your fuchsias, I'm sure. Our neighbor's sunflowers are happily peeking over our fence right now.

Our neighbour and her toddler, on the upside of the hill, are growing a sun flower in a pot - it is about 4 foot high so far - but no sign of a flower yet - I do hope, for the little one, that it does flower.

I must try to remember to post a picture of my fuchsias by the end of the summer - and the sunflower!

Midsummer's day was dreadful here as well - wet and humid, so much rain it looked like a thick and persistent fog.

I like your misty Summer Solstice pic. It will probably depress you to know that on the day of the Winter Solstice here it was about 11 too, but very cold due to snow on the mountain and a strong wind. It was a miserable day! I didn't even try for a pic.

Date: 26/06/2012 07:38 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com
I would have been happy to have the picture in front of me to take - in March, or September...

We would think the 11C a warmish day for midwinter - and have regarded the snow on the mountain and a high wind as more or less normal for then, too - so I can visualise your weather exactly! And yes, miserable would sum it up.

Thank you. The photogenicity (is that a word?) of the mist didn't really occur to me at the time - I thought more 'ugh!' to be honest. So it is really cool that people like the picture!
