curiouswombat: (Nice day)
[personal profile] curiouswombat
On Monday morning D-d had a 9.15am dental appointment which, due to the vagaries of the NHS dental system, required a trip to Peel - about 10 miles from home. I offered to give her a lift in case she was hung-over after Sunday night out with friends, and because she wasn't sure of the route home as the roads would be closed for racing.

So - after her dental appointment we took ourselves a little way down the west coast of the island to have morning coffee at Niarbyl - just for the pleasure of it.

Under the cut are some photos -

These are taken from the road a little above our destination -

As you can see D-d's hair is growing quite long - and left to curl naturally at the moment.

You can see a small white building near the coast in the first picture - that is the cafe at Niarbyl - here it is -

After morning coffee we walked a little outside to just enjoy the sunshine and the view.

You can see why it is a favourite spot.

Then we made our way back to Douglas and, only a couple of months late, we bought her birthday present from me - a desk chair; finally, at the local office suppliers, we found one that she liked!

We lunched in the small, friendly, almost vegetarian cafe which is situated in the Douglas Railway Station building - very, very, yummy food, and extremely good value.

The rest of the day was spent in helping at church with the TT teas - D-d had made some wonderful lemon and cherry frangipan - I must get the recipe from her. As usual, I had made carrot cake...

Just for my own record, really, so far this year I have made 80 servings of carrot cake, 16 of chocolate chip flapjack, 16 of chocolate fudge cake, 12 of fruit cake. D-d has done 12 pieces of frangipan and 15 hunks or rocky road. So, between us we have made 151 portions of cake. (This is probably less than 10% of the total number of pieces sold in church over the TT festival!)

Today is damp, cool, and racing is being delayed and delayed - I am going down to church to do a 'late shift' at the snack bar as it is going to be open for three or four hours later than originally planned.

It is - you can sit in the window drinking your tea or coffee, and look at the sea - it is one of my very favourite places.

Such stunning views! And all your talk of carrot cake is making me crave some...

It is a lovely spot.

I make so much carrot cake! I do eat up the scraps, sometimes - and it actually is pretty good carrot cake, I have to admit.

Wow! Those pictures are just gorgeous, and I love D-d's hair.

That is how her hair looks if she just lets it do its own thing.

That west coast of the island is rather beautiful.

It is so nice to have other people admiring where I live. I do rather love my small island - I think it is small, but perfectly formed!

It was one of those blue sea days - and the greens are very lush because we ahve had a fair bit of rain recently!

Aaah, that's my favorite weather. When it has rained and then the sun comes out and all the colors are super saturated. :)

Good grief, you have had much better weather than we are 'enjoying'!! Grey, drizzly and cold here!

I like D-d's hair - very pretty.

That was Monday. Yesterday was wet. Today was grey and damp until mid-afternoon when it brightened up and we had a lovely sunny evening.

That is her hair au naturale so to speak.

We do green in a big way - mainly because it rains quite often... Monday really was a nice blue sea day, too.

There were quite a few yachts around - I guess it was just a nice day for sailing -and there are nearly always sheep in any distant view, I realise!

You live in such a beautiful part of the world, but so do I. There is something about islands that makes them special.

I agree. I think we are privileged, living on islands as we do.

I like D-d's hair curly. But then I have curly hair too.

We see more of her curls, these days - she is much more laid back about leaving it the way it is rather than insisting it is heavily disciplined!

It's beautiful - but the views always remind me of Devon and Cornwall, especially the north coast.

My mother and I thought that, when we holidayed in north Devon some years ago. A friend pointed out, once, that the biggest compliment anyone Manx ever seems to give to anywhere is to say "It's lovely - it's just like home!"

This is why I sometimes long to live by the sea :-) We've got the explosions of green all over at the moment, but sadly no blue sky to go with it...

I do love all the shades of green - travelling up to Lancaster from Coventry last week they were beautiful - but I love the blues and greys of the sea that go with them so well, too.

What exquisite place, what beautiful photos and what glorious weather. I see you and D-d after she was done with the dentist had a most enjoyable day. That is good.

I hope the weather improved and the race was a total success.

Do the green field really go right down to the ocean?

Carrot cake is one of my favorites. I hadn't heard of frangipan and had to look it up - it sounds yummy.

D-d's hair is gorgeous!

Date: 06/06/2012 10:48 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com
Yes the green fields do go right down to the sea.

You can't keep carrot cake in front of the bikers - I take 20 pieces down and a couple of hours later they've all gone - and there are always at least six different types of cake out, sometimes eight or nine.

D-d's frangipan is gorgeous - she makes a mean 'rocky road', too.

Such beautiful vistas!

Love your daughter's curls. Bojoette is growing her hair out again, too. She really needs to leave it a little longer or keep it fairly short in her line of work. When it was in between, she'd have to pull it back in the silliest one inch ponytail!

From: [identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com
I remember reaching that 'almost a pony-tail' problem a couple of times.

D-d's thick mass of curls can be difficult to control - but they are beautiful when she lets them have their head, so to speak.
