S2C and I actually arrived in Coventry the day before the event started - as a committee member I really need to be there from when people begin to arrive, but it takes us leaving home at 7.45 am to get there at 4pm. Our trip on Thursday was, however, positively pleasant - and whilst S2C worked on his talk, I sat in [livejournal.com profile] gillo's garden enjoying catching up, cold cider, and eventually pizza and Dave's company, too, as the warm evening turned through dusk - and using her WiFi to find a couple of... interesting... illustrations for my talk on Saturday.

I have written all about the Friday evening, and Saturday, here in the community.

The hotel fed us well on Saturday evening - and then reserved the TV end of the bar for our use as we sat and giggled and heckled all through Eurovision - sadly we missed the first few minutes and so we didn't get to see Engelbert - but the rest most certainly kept us entertained. The male presenter was scary - he smiled all the time - as if his top lip had been glued to his teeth. [livejournal.com profile] kazzy_cee could be heard first muttering and then, eventually, yelling "Don't Smile! STOP smiling!" at him by the end of the show. Fortunately she valued her cocktail too much to throw her glass at the screen!

I mention the Bad!Elf!Porn! in my report. I won it in the raffle. It has a long history, starting in the early 1990s when [livejournal.com profile] rahira acquired it at a Convention in the USA. It remained in the back of a drawer in her house for many years until she put it up as a prize for a quiz on her journal a few months ago.

[livejournal.com profile] quinara won it, even though she was trying not to - and [livejournal.com profile] rahira posted it off to the UK. I hope Quinara did not try to read it before she did anything academically important as it would probably have made her brain trickle out of her nostrils - it really is that bad. Quinara donated it to the Event raffle. I actually tried to read some of it. I passed it to other people to try to read some of it; and we all agreed we were worried about our brains melting at the absolute awfulness of it. I think I will need to add my signature to the wrapper and take it back next year to become one of those annual booby prizes.

I have also posted my talk on the community - but I will say more about that in my next post here.

In other news it is TT Practice week and I am busy baking cake to be sold to the spectators in aid of church funds. Currently my tally is 16 chunks of chocolate chip flapjack (British not American), 16 pieces of chocolate fudge cake, 12 pieces of carrot cake, with 12 more ready to go, and 24 pieces of gingerbread ready to go.

It is certainly developing a life of its own...

Some of it is really rather excruciating.

I have bookmarked most of the write-ups and stuff, to read at the weekend, but I couldn't resist reading this one now.

It sounds like you all had a huge lot of fun. (Of course you did!) WriterconUK combined with Eurovision has got to be a match made in heaven (for everybody except those stray other guests who happened to want a quiet night in the bar *g*)

The Bad!Elf!Porn! is very intriguing. I don't suppose you fancy posting an extract under flock? *tempts*

And I am very glad to hear there will be an Event 2013, with the existing committee; you are all doing such a fantastic job.

I hope you have a lot of fun with the TT crowds.

We came to the conclusion that Eurovision is a fandom in its own right. We had pre-booked the bar TV - and the staff were happy to give us the zapper and let us decide on volume etc.

The two guys who came down and asked if it could be turned over to the football went back and watched the footie in their room, I guess. They left the bar, anyway!

The Bad!Elf!Porn does tend to turn my stomach - I'm not sure I could cope with copying much of it - there seems to be a large dollop of bondage,non-con etc - and one where the elf is being shaved all over - which makes me wonder whether she (in this case) is actually covered in fur...

The TT crowds are building - the boat was pretty full on our way home. I love the atmosphere.

Y'know I'd completely forgotten about the smiling moron presenter. It really was grating after a while (sorry to be loud! *g*).

(sorry to be loud! *g*).

Don't be at all sorry - it is exactly the correct behaviour whilst watching Eurovision!

It is amazing how much carrot cake bikers eat...

Is TT just once a year? It's hard to believe it's been a year already!

Yes - it is really only once a year and we are back to the annual carrot-cake bakeathon...

I think the guys eat it because they can then tell their wives they ate some vegetables when they go home!
