Calling all UK friends - [livejournal.com profile] brutti_ma_buoni has just pointed out that it is almost Mass Observation Day for this year.

So this is a call for anyone and everyone to keep a diary for Saturday, May 12th, and e-mail it so that it becomes part of an archive of everyday life in Britain. The first Mass Observation Day was in 1937,and they have, more recently, become an annual event again, building up an archive of everyday life in Britain.

I took part on May 12th last year - and then put my own one-day diary on my journal here a couple of days later.

They want as many different participants as possible - I'll be doing it again - why not join in?

The full details, including what to do with your one-day diary after you have written it, are here.

I did that last year... it was easier then as it was a work day, so I just kept a notebook on my desk. This year it's a Saturday - so my log won't be so detailed, but I think I will try to join in again.

I'll be the same. There should be quite a lot of contrasts with last year's ones - all part of the joy of the project I guess.

I think this is a wonderful thing! I wish I lived there so I could participate. Hope all the UK people on your journal will do so, as it is a terrific opportunity to be part of a big... um... "thing", for lack of a better word.

It is absolutely fascinating - they are building up a wonderful archive of everyday life.

What a neat idea. I was confused for a moment because I was thinking of the Catholic Mass.

Hmm - we could all go to our local church and watch the priests at work!

I just read your diary from last year and found it fascinating. Who could have thought that incontinence could be such an interesting subject for specialisation. All your client's must be so grateful for your help.

I work in something of a Cinderella speciality - but it really is a very rewarding job, and I get to meet some fascinating people.

What a fascinating project. I wish we had something similar here.

Taking part last year was an interesting exercise - I'm looking forward to doing it again.

Not british, but what a good idea! Granted my diary for that day wouldn't be very interesting...

To a large extent that is the idea - mine will probably go 'had a lie-in, had a lazy morning, went shopping...'

It's saturday. My list would add laundry and gardening, but pretty much like yours other than that!

A pleasure. I saw [livejournal.com profile] ffutures, who took part last year, had picked it up from me and pimped it further, too.

I enjoyed it last year - it is fascinating, even when days are ordinary, to peek into people's lives - and I'm sure in the future people will be just as interested in our ordinary days.
