Boy does that song bring back memories though. It was on one of the first CDs my dad (the audiophile; he also bought the first CD player I ever remember seeing) owned. I was in high school and i had him copy it for me so I could listen on my walkman. I have a bunch of my dad's CD in a box-- I couldn't quite bring myself to go through them right after he died-- I'm pretty sure that's one my mom didn't care about.

Somehow it had never really occurred to me where the band name might have come from... until I saw this!

As a Kansan, Wizard of Oz is never far from mind, so the connection to Toto was immediate. We currently have a silly politician who is advocating our state adopt the Cairn Terrier our state dog. Firstly, with unemployment high and small businesses failing left and right, do we really need our politicians putting their efforts to such things? Secondly, all of our state animals, insects, and plants are indigenous to Kansas--the Cairn Terrier is not. Thirdly, do we really want to further ingrain outsiders with the notion that the Wizard of Oz is our only identity? Lastly, why do our politicians chose silly subjects that make Kansas look addlepated to the rest of the world?

Love you, Toto, but you don't deserve to be our state dog. That should be the prairie dog! :D

And I am too old to remember the band or the song. By the early 70s I had mostly stopped buying or listening to rock. I cut down on rock after Janis Joplin's death and didn't resume listening until my daughter was a teen.
