I commented, when posting about it being our 25th wedding anniversary last week, that we had done the whole thing over again the week after.

Our civil wedding was in North Shields, where we lived, but we came home to the island for a church blessing the next week. Someone asked for more pictures...

In these you can see my hat better, the bridesmaids' dresses - and one of my favourite pictures of myself.

Here we are with the bridesmaids (my sister on the left), and our parents. Really not very flattering on my Mum lurking behind us!

Family group

I'm not sure which of us had said what in this one, taken in the church yard - but you can see my hat nicely - with it's big net bow that came halfway down my back.

Paul & Vo

This was taken at the reception - my mum made our cake, with its silver ribbons and floral decorations to match my flowers.

reception

And this is one of my favourite pictures of me - taken when the main reception was over, in the bar of the grand Island, with my feet-up!

putting my feet up...

It was great fun doing it all the second week - getting all dressed up again. And after the formal reception, and the rest with my feet up - we had a dance in the evening with chicken and chips for everyone. And the quote of the day came from my eighty-odd year old great aunt who was one of the last to leave, at 11pm; "You have to make the most of it, gel, when you get to my age. Every wedding might be the last you get to..."

And I promise - no more wedding pics!

And what pretty feet! But I can see why you wanted to get off those heels for a bit, beautiful as the shoes are. Lovely pics all round - you all seem to be having a great deal of fun.

It was fun! As for the shoes - yes it was no wonder I needed to put my feet up. They needed to be that high to stop my dress trailing on the ground - I only have short legs and it was easier to get high heels than take the dress up!

I had a friend who hired a wedding dress and had an even bigger height discrepancy between it and her - she, who had only ever worn flatties, ended up tottering around in 6" heels - at least mine were only 4"!!

I could sort out the colour balance on that first picture if you like. Send me a full size version, and it will be simple to do in Photoshop.

p.s. am touched to see Spkr looking almost romantic, and you look lovely, as a bride should.

The colour balance in a lot of the pictures is weird - as a friend tried to cope with the flowers and dresses coming out in very clear blue tones, when they were actually all in shades of purpley blue. These were in the days when the colour balancing was done in the dark room, of course.

I'll happily send you the full sized scan for you to play with!

And yes - he was a bit of a romantic in those days! He does still have his moments, but they are fewer and further between as time's gone by.

Very nice photos, everyone looks happy. And that's quite the spread, no wonder everyone looks happy.

It was fun - we really enjoyed ourselves both days, and it was at such a fraction of what people seem to spend on so many weddings these days.

Thank you for those - great idea of a hat rather than a tiara. Did you get to wear the hat again?

Date: 02/05/2011 07:08 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com
I thought the hat because we had the actual marriage in a registry office - but I wanted something 'bridal' - and I really liked it, but it was a bit too weddingy and so I never have worn it again, although it was used for small people's dressing-up a few times later.

It struck me, watching this recent royal wedding, that they looked as if they were enjoying themselves, too. I was so happy for them, because it should be a day to enjoy.

I wonder if Kate'll be 4 dress-sizes larger and wearing glasses when it's her silver wedding? As long as they're still happy - we are!

You are BEAUTIFUL! Speakr ain't half-bad, either. Your bridesmaid looks oddly like D-d. Is she her auntie?

It's a very long time ago! I am surprised at how pretty I was - I never thought of myself that way. He was a good looking lad, too, wasn't he?

Oddly I would guess you mean the bridesmaid most easily seen - the one on the right, and she is not related. She was the best man's fiancée. The one on the left is my sister.

Every bride should have a picture with her feet-up! Aunty Janie actually managed at least two or three more weddings after ours - and doubtless made the most of every minute of those ones, too - her philosophy for life will be mine, too, I think.
