Well - it was a beautiful wedding, the bride was radiant and elegant, and everyone looked as if they were really enjoying themselves. (With the exception of Victoria Beckham and Countess Spencer, who both seemed to have a nasty smell under their noses and be sucking lemons, and David Cameron who looked, as [livejournal.com profile] gillo said, hunted.)

But I think my previous observation concerning hobbits was born up by the small hobbit bridesmaid on the left -

Hobbit wedding

Actually Grace van Cutsem was very cute - in a slightly grumpy hobbitish way!

She was my favourite little bridesmaid, particularly on the balcony with her hands over her ears. *g*

It looked like a very happy occasion to me.

(can't see the hobbit wedding pic though)

I've changed it so that is not a link to the original pic any more, but have copied and uploaded it to my photobucket, so you should see it now.

The bridesmaids are definitely cute. So far I've seen a great many truly ridiculous hats and a lot of gorgeous coats - and that beautiful wedding dress, of course. Am looking forward to the full fashion shoot. :D

(But Victoria Beckham's shoes! No wonder she looked lemon-faced; her feet looked deformed! *quiet horror*)

I liked the way that Pippa Middleton took the two tiny bridesmaids by the hands to walk them up the aisle - and that, during the signing of the register, they were spirited away (possibly to go to the loo), and rejoined the main wedding part only as they got back to the doors of the Abbey - signs that they were actually thought about rather than just being fashion accessories!

VB's shoes were terrible - and I saw (as I looked for a pic of tiny hobbit) that they had had 'extra platforms added to help her cope with 6" heels at this late stage of pregnancy'!

PS - prize for most ridiculous hat has to go to Princess Bea, I think - my husband came in and said 'Who's the one with the antlers?'

Princess Beatrice's hat was ridiculous, and her sister's dress was pretty bloody awful too! Between them they looked like a royal joke!

All the important people really did look as if they were enjoying themselves. And I loved that he changed back into his RAF uniform to drive her around the corner in his Dad's car.

That's who the little bridesmaids reminded me of *g*. I loved the way she had her hands over her ears on the balcony and looked generally quite unimpressed. She'll be embarrassed for ever about it later on :)

ETA: And belated congratulations on your wedding anniversary which I missed when I was away :)

And thank you!

It would have been worth it just for the hats - but it really was a lovely wedding - having a tiny hobbit in the wedding party must surely bring good luck!

Isn't she cute? In a seriously grumpy sort of way! So - the Middletons come from Bucklebury and there was a hobbit in the wedding party - what's the betting that Gandalf's got a hand in tonight's fireworks?

I've only seen a few photographs from the wedding. I could care less about the dress, way to fancy for my taste. I'm waiting for pictures of the horses.

From: [identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com
Oh there were certainly horses - although only on the return leg, they used cars on the way there.

Actually the dress was rather beautifully plain compared with a lot that you see girls wearing these days - hopefully it might lead to a trend!

I loved the bride's dress, her sister's and the bridesmaids. They were beautiful, simple, elegant and to my mind exquisite.

I didn't see the antler's hat, but mom and Zeti did, and they were so laughing over it. Now, I have to see it.

They really were all very elegant - unlike Princess Bea - here (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/gossip/2011/04/princess-beatrice-hat-facebook-royal-wedding-philip-treacy-hat.html) are pictures of her with her panda eyes and her antlers - and her sister who, honestly, didn't look much better.

ROTFL By the Valar that was indeed awful. Didn't like her sister's much but her's took the crown.

Date: 29/04/2011 09:17 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com
It really was.

The sad thing is that she could, probably, look rather good - she has a nice figure, big blue eyes and lovely hair - but at almost any Royal even you can guarantee that Bea will look... weird - and Eugenie a bit better - but only a bit.

I'm sure she could. Wasn't she the one the run the London Marathon last year tied up to a bunch of people, and won a medal for 1st place in group? I was in London then and remember seeing her on TV at the hotel. She does have a nice figure and looks good. Not in that picture though.

Good God. I hadn't seen Beatrice's hat before. Who on earth advised her to wear it?

Everything else was wonderful. I love a bit of pomp and ceremony :>) I saw the litle bridesmaid on the news tonight. The poor child looks distinctly unimpressed.

As for VB sucking lemons - does she ever look any different?

I think Bea's hat has earned her almost as much coverage as the bride - but a lot less positive...

And you are quite right - everyone at the abbey looked wonderful and as if they were really enjoying themselves. Although tiny hobbit was distinctly grumpy, wasn't she?

As for VB - she could at least have tried to look as if she didn't mind someone else getting more camera time than her!

My daughter thought perhaps she was 'not comfortable appearing in public whilst so pregnant' - in which case, well surely her and David have worked out what causes it by now? And Ben Fogle's wife looked even more likely to deliver during the service and she was smiling!

Actually, on checking up, the person who was almost as sour faced as VB, and managing the Galadhrim-like look down the nose even better, wasn't actually the Countess Spencer - he hasn't married her.

In all fairness to Victoria Beckham (and I can't believe I just typed that phrase!) did you see her shoes?? And pregnant? I'd look miserable too!

She didn't have to wear them! Not unless someone had earlier held her at gunpoint whilst they superglued her feet into them...

But she would always put style before sense, I fear. I read somewhere that the depth of the platform was to reduce the effect on her balance of the six inch heels, but really it might have been better, just this once to settle for two inches.

Mr. Bojo and I watched the highlights on the news tonight. I don't wish to be negative, but all the hoopla before the wedding had just about driven us around the bend, and we'd been trying to avoid any mention of the festivities which were reported, ad nauseum, about every tiny detail for weeks leading up to the event. It was nice to finally have the day arrive! We did enjoy the kiss on the balcony and the tiny hobbit disagreeing with the noise from the cheering crowds. Those are the nice memorable moments of a wedding!

Kate was radiant, and her sister was beautiful. Such lovely girls. Harry should think about dating Pippa...

I loved Kate's wedding dress. Perhaps she will start a trend to finally retire the strapless gown. Her dress for the reception was beautiful, too.

I will say that when I saw Eugenie and Beatrice, I gasped and blurted to my husband that they looked like Cinderella's evil stepsisters. I'm sure they are really decent looking girls when they aren't all decked out, but they did look like something out of a Disney cartoon. I suppose it goes to show that one can have money and still be bereft of taste. What amazes me is that you know people told them how sharp they looked when putting their ensembles together.

I used to mourn the fact that American women, with the exception of black church-goers, don't wear hats. I'm not so sad about that any longer!

I get the impression that you had more on your television in the weeks and months before than we did. I avoided some of the pre-wedding stuff, but I did watch a couple of very interesting documentary programmes looking at Royal weddings over the ages - going right back through the centuries rather than just Diana in her duvet.

I didn't see the balcony bit - I was hanging out some washing and S2C was watching the snooker. I did catch a glimpse, though, later and was more taken with the way Camilla and Charles were helping a tiny bridesmaid to see better than the actual kiss. It was so clear, within the abbey, how much in love they were that the quick peck was more a necessary photo-op thing than a proper kiss!

I hope fervently that that beautiful gown heralds the end of the boot-tube wedding dress, too.

And as you show in your links, Beatrice and Eugenie are both capable of looking beautiful - I don't know if they set out to shock and refuse help from advisors, or just have fashion advisors that hate them!

The amazing array of hats are one of the best parts of the whole event - spotting those that work, and those that don't...

I think having hobbitty connections is going to be good for them. The couple looked as if they enjoyed every minute - which is just as it should be, and I think they have a very good chance of a happy marriage.
