curiouswombat: (cakes)

My daughter just passed me this link. I think I would call it 'Embryonic Death by Chocolate'.

If you've given up both cake and chocolates for Lent it would certainly be a way of celebrating the end of your fast.

I'm torn between feeling ill at the very thought and wanting to dash out to the kitchen and make some of them...

I wouldn't mind one if there was a version without the cream egg and the topping!

Ah - now that would be almost exactly what you would achieve id you used this recipe of mine (http://cookingupastorm.livejournal.com/70739.html#cutid1) - it works well in muffin cases....

I have got to make some of those!

[I noticed you're posting a new story, btw, & I'm hoping to get a chance to read it this weekend.

Also to sort out [livejournal.com profile] writerconuk.

How are you getting on with your LOTR bigbang story? I've just finished a very stressful Draco/Hermione challenge, and was looking forward to getting stuck in to a relaxing L/E story, when they started chasing me & I panicked! I'm hoping to get my mojo back tomorrow...]

They are probably, as my daughter said, a straight line to diabetes... but there is something strangely appealing about them!

New story in almost finished, but being posted at a chapter a week at the moment. This is relevant to the Bigbang story - I haven't started mine yet, either. I will start it when this one is basically finished - so probably in a day or two, maybe next weekend.

So I panicked a bit when I got the 'How are you doing? Are you quarter-way yet?' post too. I e-mailed back saying the story is currently only an outline - this is not unusual for me and I am still expecting to have it finished in time - then giving them an outline in about 100 words which should help any artist assigned to me - I hope!

Edited as Id made it look as if the B_B people expected me to be even further ahead than they do!

It makes 'Death by Chocolate' look under-sweet, doesn't it?

OMG, I SO want one of these!!!

I don't do Lent, but maybe I could have one anyway?

I'd make you one if I could e-mail it - but I fear the only answer is for you to get out your favourite chocolate muffin mix and a cream egg...

I used to really like those Cadbury eggs, but the quality of the chocolate they use is... lacking. I wonder if the British ones are better? Hmm, I wonder if they have them at The British Pantry? I think a taste test is in order.

[livejournal.com profile] fenchurche says that UK Cadbury's and US Cadbury's are definitely different. We regard it as very basic chocolate anyway - but she says it is much nicer than most US chocolate - I guess it's a matter of taste!

I find cream eggs too sweet and sticky. They used to be OK when they were bigger, but they are so small now!!

Not sure I could cope with the cream egg AND the icing!!!! Sugar rush!! :D

Date: 23/04/2011 05:25 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com
It would certainly cause a mega suger rush.

They aren't a favourite of mine - I prefer the Mars or the Galaxy ones - and I'm guessing it would work with any of those if I really wanted to try.

S2C thinks the Lindt version (http://www.lindt.com/au/swf/eng/products/easter-collection/lindor-egg-small-treats/) would be the ultimate.

I must send that to Tim, as he gave up chocolate for Lent. I have never done that, as in the Brethren we don't ... and I have no will-power!!!!

Every year, I try a Cadbury Easter egg and each time I'm disappointed because it's too sweet for my tastes. (Which is just as well, because otherwise I'd gain a ton of weight around this time of year, LOL.)

So, I'd definitely pass on that cupcake!

From: [identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com
I am not a big fan - but they are very much a basic kiddy thing - The Lindt version (http://www.lindt.com/au/swf/eng/products/easter-collection/lindor-egg-small-treats/) is much classier - and would probably work in the cupcake...

Date: 23/04/2011 05:31 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cbtreks.livejournal.com
The egg in the cupcake looks a little dried out but I like the idea. (I saw brownies with half a cream egg baked in the top of each square but since the eggs were only there for the last five minutes of baking time, they looked fine.) Wish I could find the Cadbury orange cream eggs - they'd be even better.

I think baking like that probably would thicken the goo but it might make it slightly easier to eat!

I literally just made chocolate cupcakes. and peppermint frosting; I have to say the cadbury egg idea is wacky but I'd have been tempted. But no more batter!

I am still rather mind-boggled as to who thought 'Oh - I know! I'll stick a whole creme egg into the middle of the cake mixture and, when it's done, I'll put a deep layer of sugary topping on it - won't that be something?'

Saffron buns sound very good - we had hot cross buns yesterday - and I'm making proper trifle for tomorrow. Happy Ester to you and yours, too!

It looks too sweet for my taste. Now if it were some kind of very dark chocolate with some sort of a brandy and fruit feeling, the story would have been different. My mouth waters just thinking about it. *g*

There is a dark rich Lindt version of the creme egg - that might work...

Oh wow.

... I wonder if I'll still be able to find creme eggs when my holiday's up and I head north to my own kitchen? I have to try that!

Do let me know how it works!

My husband is very tempted - he wondered if he just bought a chocolate muffin and a creme egg, dug a hole in the muffin, inserted the egg, and microwaved it whether it would work - I don't think it would, quite...

I'm not a fan of Cadbury--the chocolate is mediocre--but I think I'd like my cupcake and candy separate, in this case.

We regard Cadbury's as fairly standard kiddy chocolate - although I'm sure [livejournal.com profile] fenchurche told me that the version you get is not the same as the UK stuff - and that she prefers ours.

We thought the Galaxy chocolate egg, or a Lindt one, would be the ultimate version for the cake centre!

Oh my goodness, one bite of that would go a loooooong way with me. I can only just stand Cadbury eggs... they're really too sweet for me.

But I do understand your dilemma! They look really good, even if one bite would send a person into a diabetic coma.

I think the only realistic way to eat something like that would be to share it with at least two other people!
