A Night at the Theatre.
2 Jul 2010 10:26 pmLast night my sister and I went to see the touring production of Joseph at our local theatre. Originally D-d and I were going, at her request, but she is still in Italy (and, apparently, having a really wonderful time). So J and I went - which was one of those odd things - last time just the two of us went to the theatre together it was before either of us were married, on a break in Blackpool, and we went to see... Joseph!
On that occasion J said, the minute Pharaoh came on stage, "I'm sure I know him... I was at school with him." This seemed so unlikely that I really couldn't believe her - until we bought a programme and... yes, it really was someone that she had been to school with in Ramsey!
This time, as I said, it was in our local theatre, The Gaiety, and the show was good fun. But I thought those of my friends with an interest in theatre might be much more interested in the building itself.
It is a perfect example of a Frank Matcham designed theatre, with all the traps and things working; those who understand these things will be impressed to know that it has a fully restored and working Corsican Trap...
Those who are into modern films may be more interested to know that it recently starred in 'Me and Orson Welles'...
Anyway - before the production started I took just three pictures of the interior, by the available light, before I tucked my camera away in case it was confiscated!

As you can see it is a wonderful small theatre - here is someone else's picture of the exterior just to finish the post.
