curiouswombat: (WTF)
[personal profile] curiouswombat

The Midi-meet was, as I have said before, really good.

There were new people, and people I had met before, to talk to; a quiz in which my team came last(!) - and a whole day, and a bit, of talks.

My session was intended at least as much to amuse as to educate - the subject was 'Things that make you go WTF?' In other words the things in a story that pull you up short and stops you mid-flow, so to speak!

I have posted the text of my talk at the WriterConUK community - Click here to read it and (hopefully) enjoy!

On the day I had a Powerpoint presentation with header slides and the quotes on the screen - but I think that you can get the gist!

*snorfle*

Yeah - that's pretty much the reason I gave up reading anything posted on fanfic.net... so long ago, I'm not even sure if that's the right name for the site.

Horrifyingly, only the Bad Summeries Sumirys Summaries came from The Pit of Voles (aka fanfic.net) - the rest came from Open Scrolls, Stories of Arda, Twisting the Hellmouth (A really major Cross-over archive), and a couple of others with a reputation for better quality stuff than The Pit as well!

Yay! I'm glad you posted that. I can't wait to catch up on it.

You are going to have an awful lot of catching up to do! I was only away at the Con for a weekend, not getting married and having a honeymoon, and I had to skim like mad!

Lovely to know that everything went well - well apart from the car breaking down today, that is!

Read this and laughed again. Thank you for a very well illustrated collection of "howlers".

It was just... words fail me. Not a thing that happens often!

That was such a fun talk (though it does make me antsy to see other people's mistakes :-)

[I didn't say at the time, but I've read 'Adventers', because it's next to my 'Winter Magic' at AFF but has far more hits and comments. It's less than 500 words long & features Elrond's daughter 'Luna' and Legolas' brother 'Zachary'. I'm almost certain that the author's trolling!]

Ooh - sounds exciting, perhaps I should go and read... or perhaps not!

I just added my 'contributors' banner - I forgot it when I posted yesterday...

(self-pimp - I posted chapter nineteen of Brotherhood (http://curiouswombat.livejournal.com/200412.html#cutid1) when I got home as S2C beta'd it on the boat.)

Well, reading it wouldn't take long!

Oooo! (The one where we see L/E, LOL!) I'll read it tonight!

[I've been ill, on and off, since I got back from Coventry -- I've seen other people mentioning they've had the same symptoms -- and I'm very behind with reading & commenting. And I've still got to post my talk :-( ]

Oh - sorry you've been ill - we've been OK.

I think it is a good idea to have the talks posted at about one a day, to be honest.
