Last Lines this time...
5 Aug 2009 09:17 pmThe 'Twenty First Lines' meme has, of course, a follow-on, which is to copy out twenty last lines. Here are the lasts to match the firsts, in many cases, but not all - as the two works in progress do not have last lines... Again a number are from drabbles, I don't have anywhere near 20 longer things written.
One thing I notice is that there are one or two rather long last lines; and one which most certainly is not!
1. They just had time to put him safely at the back of the shop before Bagpuss yawned, settled himself down, and went to sleep and, when Bagpuss went to sleep, all his friends went to sleep; Spike waited until sunset, and crept out of the back door. (Mid –day at the Lost & Found)
2. Around the corner, just out of sight, Emily was whittling a piece of wood into a nice pointy shape; she wasn’t sure why but, since the mice had polished the nice shiny thing, she suddenly felt VERY fit – and she wanted to kill something evil! (Once More with Bagpuss)
3. Above them was a sky full of stars, and the ones that Xander couldn't see didn't worry him – because those he could see were beautiful, and more than enough for him to be content with. (Half a Sky of Stars)
4.Suddenly it looked as if, Wiccan, Jewish or whatever, it was going to be a very good Christmas; and, with the remembered sound of Tara’s voice in her ear, Willow decided that perhaps one of those young Watchers was really pretty hot. (News from Heaven)
5. But of course he must have been wrong – ghosts don’t leave wet footprints and drive a modern vehicle – do they? (Skinny Dippers)
6. It wasn’t quite what he’d had in mind when he’d bought them – but then it just went to prove that a very long life with this woman was never going to be boring and predictable! (Ten Years After)
7. Tindómë found herself wondering if, with enough concentration, she might be able to ‘find’ Spike… (Return of The Key)
8. And if Robin Wood, or subsequent lovers, asked why she often slept in an old 49ers T-shirt she would just smile and say “not for remembrance, simply for pleasure.” (You Gotta Have Faith)
9. “I guess,” Tindómë answered, smiling happily too, “and then we can go and tell Boroniel and Eriathwen that we totally had much, much pleasure!” (Starlight Bathing)
10. “Red sky at night is the sailors’ delight,’ said Cirdan, “You will have smooth seas and fair winds.” (Haven)
11. No wonder he didn’t want a garden full of marigolds. (The Gardener, Rainbow Challenge)
12. He rested his head back on his pack, his eyelids heavy; and didn’t notice around him, as if someone had thrown a switch, hundreds of yellow eyes flick open. (When First We Practice to Deceive…)
13. “Simbelmynë”, he said, “to remember them all.” (For Remembrance)
14. “Infinitely.” (The Gardener. Flower challenge)
15. The mother left the forest fringe sorrowful, but sure the child would be loved, and ever took comfort from the flowers whose name the child bore. (Rose)
16. Later Sam asked what Frodo had thought their sister’s name was and, taking out a small notebook, wrote ‘Elanor’. (What was that name again?)
17. “I’m sorry, ‘Dan,” he said, “but that is another elleth who will not be wedding into the House of Elrond.” (To Know, Know, Know Him…)
18. “If you are going to mutter my sister’s name in your sleep I will have to move to the other side of the camp!” (Pillow Talk)
19. “I don’t want her then. It’d better be a boy. I don’t want a sister who’s going to be violent!” (On Naming Children)
20. “We are indigo,” young Elros thought, “bridging men and elves.” (Bridges)
It's been a nice day today - almost reminded me of summer...
