So - we are holidaying in York, rather than dashing here and back as a luggage delivery service!

We decided to stay in a self-catering apartment rather than a hotel - I like being able to spread out, don't mind doing the odd bit of cooking, and an upmarket apartment is actually still cheaper than a budget hotel!

The apartment is withing four or five minutes walk of the city centre, and is very, very nice - so

The Juniper apartment is in the basement of a four storey house. This is the view down from the living area towards the dining area and kitchen -

This shows D-d getting ready for our first dinner in the apartment, in the dining are -

A close-up of the kitchen area - with all the usual mod-cons (dishwasher, fridge, freezer, etc.)

Here is S2C awaiting his meal -

S2C and D-d

Out of shot to the right is the doorway to the bedroom D-d has, a wet-room bathroom and the second toilet. The door to the right of the picture, beside the kitchen area, leads to the back of the apartment where there are a few steps up to a washbasin and shower then a few more to the rest of our bedroom -

Our bedroom

All in all, a rather nice place to spend a week. We only have two problems - the door handles are so stiff that S2C got stuck in the toilet and was almost at 'hammering on the door' stage, and D-d managed to shut herself out last night when she had been out with friends, and had to wake us up by ringing the door bell. Secondly S2C reckons the bed is too firm - pity, because I am sleeping really well in it! Apart from those little things, I would thoroughly recommend it for a holiday home.

It is, really, my favourite way to holiday if I am somewhere for any length of time.

And this is a rather nice apartment.

What a very sharp and clean looking apartment! Too bad about the stiff doors and hard bed, but I'm glad the rest suits. :)

It is very nicely furnished, and well equipped too - everything you could possibly need is here.

Looks great!

We have had such bad luck with accommodation in York - our last hotel was Teh Pits (Minster Hotel - Just Don't Go There ... I've posted an online review somewhere).

How much is this costing, if that's not too personal?

Also, Rachel told me about your meeting up and how lovely you are!

If we were to stay at the Premier Inn it would have been £73 per room per night, and £78 per room per night at weekends. We would have needed two rooms - and this is a bit less than one room there for the week; see this link for details (http://www.thejuniper.co.uk/prices.html). It is more cost effective for three or four than two - but even so it is certainly as close to town and a good deal more spacious than would be the Premier Inn or a lot of the B&Bs!

It is about two minutes from the museum gardens, to walk into town that way, and about five minutes from Bootham Bar and King's Manor.

Also, important for my family, it has free wifi. All in all, a rather nice place to stay - apart from the stiff door-handles!

Meeting Rachel was my pleasure - you have a lovely daughter.

I *love* getting an apartment on vacations... it really does make a difference, doesn't it? Having your own space where you can feel like you're still living real life, even when you're away from home.

Absolutely - and with a good kitchen if we want to cook, comfortable chairs, and free wi-fi. I prefer an apartment to a hotel if we are staying for more than a couple of days.

That looks very swish - as long as the Ouse isn't in flood!

Have you decided how many days you are staying over with us, BTW? Sunday and Monday nights or what?

Oooh - sorry! Sunday and Monday please!

I think we are a bit above water level - there is a car park about seven or eight feet below the end of the road... she says hopefully!

Nice! And it looks so pristine, too -- do you have to keep it that way, or will you not have to lift a finger while on your holidays?

Have a lovely vacation, you two!

It is lovely and clean, and all the furniture and equipment is in very good order, too. We don't have to keep it totally pristine as long as we don't leave too much mess, or I guess we might lose a little of our deposit! There is a cleaner who comes in at the end of our stay and gets it ready for the next guests.

it is a rather nice place to stay - I don't think it is going to be a very restful break - it is more of a 'doing things' one, but fun!

It is a good way to holiday - if I'm on my own then a hotel is good, but for three of us I think this is the best way - and a way to get a taster of, for example, the idea of open plan living.

Nice pics - looks like a nice place, even if it meant that S2C spent his holiday in the loo!!!

I love sleeping on a firm bed.

We have suggested that he doesn't totally close the door - just pull it closed - the loo is not overlooked!

I like the bed - he is convinced it is too hard, too high, in essence it is simply not his own bed...

What a lovely apartment! I love places that have an unusual layout.

Is that a bean bag in the fireplace?

Date: 14/07/2009 11:05 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com
Yes - a rather comfortable large red leather bean bag!

The only problem with the layout is that we have an en-suite shower - but it is a major enterprise to get from our bedroom to the loo!

Still a really good place to have for a week, though.

A lovely place to stay - much more free and easy than a hotel.

D-d is staying in York for another two academic years to study post-grad Law; she really likes the city and it has a good law college. She has grown up into a rather beautiful young lady - I am not only very proud of her, but still quite amazed as to how we produced her!
