It is a calm still evening, but the forecast is for it to be blowing a hoolie by the morning. D-d was due to sail on the boat tomorrow morning to go back to York. I noticed by mid-day today that they had already cancelled Sunday's sailings, and pointed it out to her.

She kept an eye on the website, and sure enough, about 1pm they announced that tomorrow's sailings would also be cancelled - but they were squeezing in an extra sailing at 5pm this evening. So she rang the Steam Packet and got onto that sailing, dashed out for lunch with friends, home and got packed, and made it in time for this extra sailing.

She rang to say that it had been a lovely calm crossing, the boat was not busy, and her train connections work so well that she will be in York by about 11.15pm. She wonders if they could run a fastcraft sailing to Heysham every Friday...

Remember the bathroom project? Well I've just been up and taken a few pictures, so that you can see that there is nice white and silver paper, not red, blue and/or purple, with or without spiky bits...

Note nice white grouting - and grout whitener still in the basket on the shelves...!

Extremely tasteful paper there!

And I wish I could sleep in tinsel. :(

The best of the paper is that it didn't need a lot of faffy matching!

Tinsel must be nice and soft - he tries to sleep in it every year. I'd have thought it would tickle your nose.

I like the colors in the bathroom muchly.

Perhaps S2C needs new glasses? ;)

Just really simple - mostly white, touch of silver, touch of green - no purple etc. - just as I visualised it when I first bought the paper...

It's not so much new glasses he needs, although that is true, I think it's a new memory, or possibly a new brain :~P

What's a "hoolie?" I can kind of guess, but wanted to be sure.

Blowing a real storm - it is a local term but is so common that I saw in the local paper today - "It is going to be blowing a hoolie ove the weekend."

He loves tinsel - and had a small bauble which he batted around until he lost it under the TV unit, from where no-one has been able to retrieve it.

Very nice, and elegant. Much better than purple with spiky bits, especially next to that tile.

Thank you. I still wonder how he could believe that I had bought purple paper with spiky bits!

I like he new tile and wallpaper. very soothing colors!

Sympathy for Dd on the possibility of rough crossings. I've done that a few time going to/from the San Juans or Victoria-- and that's just Puget Sound not the north Atlantic!

Both D-d and her boyfriend thought it looked bigger, too.

Living with the weather is simply part of life when you rely on a boat for transport isn't it? Yours often seems to be even worse than ours.

It's a little strange to think that even with all our technological prowess there are things we just can't control. I actually find it sort of reassuring, but I can see that the people being evacuated (like several of my co-workers!) might not see it that way.

Of course, I just now got an email saying that my amazon.com purchase is delayed "Due to the Natural Disaster". Huh!

Very attractive and restrained. That man has an over-active imagination. For which in normal circumstances we are all grateful, but not when he fantasises wallpaper train-wrecks!

And that cat of yours is just an obsessive Yulaholic.

The original green paper was similar to the green tiles and blind, and it was rather nice, but this looks clean and fresh - well at least at the moment. I still can't believe that he could forget having seen the white stuff and remember something he had seen in a nightmare instead.

Yuleaholic is a perfect description of Shaka.

You can't really tell from the pictures, but we have a big bathtub by European standards, so it is a rather nice place to put a few candles and bathe lazily. A buff elf and some oil wouldn't go amiss, either... maybe a twin or two.

He loves tinsel - although he is good about not taking it off the tree. The odd bauble maybe. I think the tinsel must be best when it is moving, so when we are taking it down and throwing it into a box, or just into a pile, like this time.

The bathroom is looking very pretty.

He'd be very happy to help you with the tinsel. Possibly with a bauble or two...

I'm a bit disappointed. I was looking forward to the purple and red paper with the spiky bits.

I love the shower curtain--looks a bit pop art. White always makes things look larger and cleaner. It's refreshing.

Cats can curl up on anything!

I think I can live without the purple and red for a bit longer!

The shower curtain has a pattern of silver bubbles on it. When we first moved in we had a glass partition, but we kept knocking ourselves on it both when showering and when sitting on the toilet ( which is too close to the bath, really) - so we went back to an old fashioned shower curtain. Which lets you ring the changes with decor very easily as well - when we want a change I can get a coloured one.

Glad D-d made it back safely.

I like the green with the white/silver - is that a blind behind the towels?

Heee - cats and stuff to sit on/in - it's inevitable isn't it! LOL!

Actually the storm is a bit late - the wind is blowing now, but the morning sailing wouldn't have been bad, but she was commenting that she had basically gained a day by being home until 4.15pm, and then in York overnight ready for today, so she was happy with the change.

That is, indeed, a blind which is really a very similar colour to the accent tiles. the floor is much the same colour as well. So the effect of the white walls is not too clinical.

The cat has now retired to D-d's bed, complaining about a lack of tinsel, lack of person, and lack of sunshine.

We currently have no household pets. (Otis, the cat in the icon, died in the fall of 2006 at the age of 17.) I do miss having a cat, but it does make it much easier to split our year between NYC and Durango, CO.

The bathroom came out pretty well - we have got better at papering as time has gone on! Although I realise there is no shot of the actual bath bit there, but you get the idea anyway!

Shaka is just a rather silly cat!
