This is a picture of the fastcraft the Steam Packet Company currently have on charter to cover the sailings between Douglas and Dublin.

It was previously owned by Emeraude Ferries, until they went out of business.

D-d and her workmates view from their window is of the harbour where they see this ferry regularly. Can you guess what they know it as?

Well you try saying the 'Emeraude' without it sounding suspiciously like the Haemorrhoid.

Bwahaha! I never actually thought of that before, although my mother's signature scent was always Emeraude perfume.

Oh dear - hope it doesn't come to mind now whenever you smell your mother's favourite!

I don't think it will, as I haven't actually smelled "Emeraude" since she died. There's a chance they don't make it any more. *sigh* Companies are so busy developing "new" scents that all pretty much smell alike; I really miss the ones that have memories attached. My own favorite was "Woodhue", but they stopped making that in the early 90's, so I switched to my grandmother's signature scent "White Shoulders". At least they still make that, for the nonce.

With my fascination with boats and water, I'd have to turn my back to the window if I wanted to get anything done.

This is a link to the webcam which appears on the company web-page - http://www.doehle-iom.com/images/doehlecam.jpg - it is set on the wall right beside the window at D-d's desk.

(With that particular link, if you want to gaze for any length of time you have to refresh.)

Ah. I'd never get any work done at all.

LOL - of course that's what it would be called by most people with a sense of humour. Looking forward to meeting you and S2C next weekend. :)

I have an aquaintance from church who is one of the Steam Packet directors - he says it is 'Rather disrespectful to the vessel'! But I bet his own staff have to be careful when they talk about it.

And i am really looking forward to next week.

Always thought that traveling was a pain in the . . .

Thanks for your explanation about the whole maiden name thing regarding Rowland's 'Dead Trouble' story. Makes sense. It's just that it was her answering machine that was repeating her last name so I was a bit confused. Also it's one of those cultural things that does get lost in transit.

By the way, have you seen and read any of the Buffy season 8 comic book. I'm torn between enjoying seeing the characters again and feeling that it is an incredibly obvious and somewhat lame attempt to retroactively explain away the Scoobies behavior during the last season of ATS. When Whedon talked about the Buffy doubles and one of them in Rome by page 5 of the first comic it sort of shifted my view of the entire work into a distinctly negative aspect.

I haven't read any of the comics at all - I am just ignoring them!

I'm sure in Rowland's story Hermione is just using her maiden name for work - but it so reminded me of that habit of still refering to people by their maiden name - I often have to explain my own antecedents to very elderly ladies by using my mother's maiden name, not even mine!
