This is one of those bitty posts.

Firstly I am off to England for a week, and I'm not taking the laptop so I will mostly be off-line. Although I do have the number for the LJ voice-post, so if I get withdrawal symptoms....

I am sailing on the first fastcraft out tomorrow - and with my normal impeccable timing it looks as if it might be the roughest sea for weeks! However, all being well I will arrive in Liverpool, get a train to Manchester, and be all signed in for the Association for Continence Advice conference by lunch time.

My dear friend D. from Skye has been in London, and is driving back on Wednesday and Thursday - so she is breaking her journey in Manchester so that we can met up for Wednesday night, and then on Thursday morning I go on to York for a few days to meet up with Daughter-dear. So - busy week, and I'll be back on Sunday night.

But before I go - S2C had picked up a meme in which you run any of your pieces of writing through the 'autosummarise' function on Word, choose the 100 word or less option - and hey presto - drabble containing the essence of the story.

Firstly - The Reduced News From Heaven.

‘Tara – no, not going to go there right now’, thought Willow.

‘Kennedy. Kennedy.

‘Back to Kennedy,’ thought Willow.

Tara, always gentle, but never meek.

Tara - Willow’s friends had thought of her as Willow’s shadow, but Willow knew Tara had been her solid foundation.

Tara, Willow remembered how it had felt, sharing a bed with Tara.

“Tara?” Willow said, in a mere whisper.

Willow said, thinking ‘Oh my God!'

Willow thought.

Now Willow could feel Tara’s hand smoothing her hair.

Willow found questions tumbling out.

Willow woke alone.

Willow stilled, and stared.

Tara had been here, Tara was happy.

..............

And now - the Reduced version of Access All Areas -

Dawn was bored. Dawn asked.

Spike said.

“Who?” asked Dawn.

Spike answered, slightly exasperatedly.

Dawn asked.

Dawn answered. Spike continued.

Dawn supplied. Dawn paused. Spike asked.

“Very!” Dawn answered. “Dawn Summers.

Spike thought. Spike thought. No Dawn.

Spike here. “Spike from Paris?”

Spike’s mind raced. Dawn was awake. Was it Spike?

"Spike – wake up!” “Spike, Spike! “Ssshh,” Dawn said.

Dawn looked pleadingly at Spike.

Dawn urged. Dawn insisted. Spike answered.

Dawn said. “Calm down, Spike." Spike squirmed slightly.

Dawn said. Dawn considered this.

Dawn smiled. Spike asked.

Mhairi turned to Spike. “Spike!”

Dawn asked Spike, puzzled.

Dawn asked.

...............

Well - hmm - that seems to be the nub of it then!!

But doing that reminded me that I have a lot of friends that will probably never have seen my first two tiny, mad, cross-over fics because my FList was much smaller then!

These might make a little more sense to UK friends - because I have written what I believe to be the only two BtVS-Bagpuss crossovers!

For anyone who wants to read but doesn't know Bagpuss - it is a very famous children's series of the 1970s, which always started in exactly the same words...

Mid-day at the Lost and Found was the first - about 500 words - and as 'G' rated as it is possible to be!

And the follow-up - Once More With Bagpuss which was a touch longer.

I must point out that they contain absolutely no spoilers for anything!!

Have a lovely week - and I hope the journey isn't too bad tomorrow! According to the BBC weather site, it's actually going to be sunny tomorrow... on Friday it said it would be raining, so it seems to be improving and you might be ok!

Not that I'm addicted to checking the weather with wet playtimes in mind.... he he!

I think you might be right - Ronaldsway reckon 'rough overnight, moderating on Monday morning, slight to moderate in the afternoon' - pity I'm not on the later sailing...but moderate on the Superseacat is uncomfortable but tolerable.

I shall give York a wave from you, and stick my tongue out at Liverpool Hopeless in passing!

Here's wishing you a week of dry playtimes! I was talking about wet playtimes last Sunday - the children (including our mutual friend) agreed it was better for it to rain on Sundays as there were more things to do at home when it rained, as they don't like wet playtimes either!

I tried to come up with a pun, but I couldn't think of anything that wasn't really offensive, so I'll just say have a great trip!

Thank you. I'd better go and find a bag and pack, I guess!

Hmmmm... Manchester, eh? I've been there. Several times. I assume it will be raining? *snerk*

And you're going to York. *waxes nostalgic* Wave to the Minster for me. And have a lovely trip with calm seas and maximum D-d fun!

The best thing about Manchester, I think, is that it is not Liverpool - I don't really like Liverpool much.

York is always a pleasure though- now with added daughter!

And that was just plain dumb because you had your Mothering Day weeks ago. Sorry.

I just read the Bagpuss fics! How fun!

I'm sure I've heard of Bagpuss, but had never seen anything of him previously.

The "News From Heaven" drabble was quite evocative I think.

Have a good trip!

I'm glad you found Bagpuss fun.

Yes - the News From Heaven drabble actually worked in it a way!

And thank you - the trip went well.

It was a good trip - everything went according to plan, the daughter is well, and I got to look over the new boyfriend.

You're already gone, of course, but I hope you have a wonderful time!

Love the drabblizations. Hee!

Thank you - I had a good trip - the conference was interesting, if tiring, and the social visit to my daughter was good too.

The autosummarise is fun, isn't it?

The first summary still mostly made sense and was really rather sad ... the second seemed to consist of nothing but various forms of "He said/she said". It's lots of fun, but I'm still not sure how it could in any way be useful.

Poor Emily! Never getting to see the magic ...

To be honest I can't see autosummarise being a lot of use for anything - it regards the 'he saids' and 'she saids' as the most important features! I was quite surprised how well the first one worked.

I can't help but think that someone from Microsoft was laughing their butt off while they wrote that program.
