A week or two ago people were discussing 'Point Pleasant'. It started on UK TV this week. We didn't watch it. Daughter-dear watched a trailer, then said 'that looked as if it could be interesting - until they put the name up - who ever heard of anything interesting with a boring name like that? I'm not going to even try to watch it.' This saved me telling her that you mostly thought that it was rubbish - although I did mention that, just in passing!

Went to my Mum's today, D-d and I, as we usually do, and as usual after we had had lunch and helped her with her shopping, we took her rather elderly terrier out for a walk. This is the 'Tommy' of terriers, except that's she's not dumb, just a bit deaf, and almost totally blind. She still seems a happy little dog though, but I began wondering about her take on the world. These days she is happy to go for a walk with Katherine and I, but only if we go up the road from Mum's - try going down the road and she sits down and won't move. She will happily go up the road, between fields of sheep and root vegetables, sniffing happily every smell, until we get to the field gate just past the house with the sheepdog, when she always does a U-turn, crosses the road, and heads for home along the other side of the road. It's as if that is as far as her sense of smell can take her before she feels too far from home.

LOL "Point Pleasant" the place is pretty dull too. Just a small town on the {New} Jersey shore.

I don't blame the terrier I'd stick close to home too!

Just teasing - some of the best people come from small towns in Jersey. Like yours truely ;) At least Pt. Pleasant had the shore Englishtown had a flea market and a race track.

Small ordinary towns sound too much like home to be interesting!!

I just wonder (on the subject of Scamp now) how do you 'see by smell?' What can it be like? I hope I never have to find out, but I do wonder.

I'd better point out, as you didn't mention it in the original post, that "Scamp" is the elderly deaf dumb and blind terrier in question.

I think dogs can probably "see" more by smell than we could. maybe more than we can see period. My old Welsh Corgie mix could smell chocolate through a double grocery bag and the package it came in.I just hope scamp's sense of smell hasn't dulled like my dad's sense of taste. That would be rough.

Hey! That's the name of a very nice town in my state (New Jersey).

:-P

I think Katherine thought it sounded exactly like a nice ordinary small town - and so frequent exciting happenings would be so unusual as to be unbelievable!

What, like "Sunnydale"? Or for that matter Whitby?

But the programme maker/DM realised that calling the programme/game Sunnydale or Whitby would put people off starting to watch it, and didn't call them that (those?) - hence proving my point!!

There's a joke involving that town's name, and the name of several other New Jersey towns.

A prostitute is showing off her wares to some NY customers who tease her about coming from NJ. She says that her beautiful body is like a map of her home state. She points to one breast and says, "For instance, this is Point Pleasant."

One of the johns points to her crotch and says, "I assume that's Cherry Hill?"

"Oh, no," she says. "That's Eatontown."
