Ouch!

curiouswombat: (Ouch!)

I've just had an unexpected afternoon off work... sadly because my car was dunched at lunchtime - with me in it. I'm OK - although I was very shaken at the time. I was turning off the road to go to our main work stores, checked the car behind me as I slowed to a stop, and he seemed to be decelerating, then there was an almighty 'bang' and he had accelerated into me. He was only a young man, accepted it was entirely his fault, and there was a witness - so no worries about that, but I was very shaken, and the work car is a bit second-hand.

I actually went on down the 20 yards to stores, where I was sat down, given a cup of tea, and as soon as my manager knew she came straight up and took me to A&E, waited with me, sorted out the car stuff, and brought me home. She also cancelled my afternoon clinic. A good manager!

A&E doctor declared me to have mild whiplash, gave me some anti-inflammatories, and predicted I will feel much stiffer tomorrow.

I'm pretty sure he is going to be proved right about that. But - I'm fine really.

Yikes! I'm so glad you're OK, but still, that kind of thing is very upsetting. ::gentle hugs::

Oh, dear, so sorry you're hurt but glad it wasn't worse, nor your personal car.

In my all-too-ample experience, the day after that kind of injury is awful, but the second and third days out are even worse, so give yourself permission to cancel whatever you're supposed to do this weekend, too. And wear a nice soft scarf around your neck and shoulders, because a chill makes everything ache more. Change positions regularly, jangle around gently when you move, and all that jazz.

Oh, dear! I'm so glad you're OK but something like that is very unnerving. Take care of yourself.

You have an AWESOME manager. I'm so glad you weren't badly hurt. I know how shocking a car accident can be, both physically and emotionally.

*gentle and soothing hugs*

Ouch! I prescribe a calming glass of wine and some serious rest. That sort of thing is really unsettling - and it's not as if you could have done anything about it.

Thank heavens for good managers.

Oh, how awful. Thank goodness you were not badly hurt -- but that does not negate the shock one bit. Be kind to yourself this evening and tomorrow!

Thank you. I am rather sore - but have regained my equilibrium!

Thank you. It is one of those 'everyday' road accidents - it could have been a lot worse - but I was rather shaken.

Thank you - I think I will be very glad of the anti-inflammatories by tomorrow - but at least it is the weekend so I cam mainly lie around!

Ouchy ouch! Poor you! Be careful - whiplash can be a bit nasty and be worse a couple of days later (I speak from experience unfortunately!).

Thank you. As D-d says, as the accident wasn't my fault, if I need to claim compensation for my injury she knows a good lawyer - but I really don't expect to need her in this context :)

I'm so glad you are not injured severely! What a terrible thing to happen. Good on your manager and good on the young man for taking responsibility, so many don't these days.

Rest and heal quickly!

Much love!!

Thank you - I am more than happy to have your virtual care-taking. At the moment the plan for the weekend is now to do very little except go to church on Sunday - and if I'm too stiff to drive there, then someone else will have to look after the children!

I have a fairly quiet day planned for Monday, inasmuch as I am attending a conference all day - and if I am too stiff to sit properly I'll just give up and go home....

I was not only physically 'taken aback', but also metaphorically. I really couldn't work out, to start with, how he could possibly have done it as I'd seen him slowing down - so I was all 'How did that happen?'.

Fortunately the weekend can be pretty quiet - I was meant to be speaking as part of a panel at an event run by the MS Society tomorrow - but my manager was also contacting them to say I wasn't coming as she thought I'd be too sore. I think she was right.

Thank you - and yes she is a good one - she was making calls to cancel stuff for me, and also to cancel a meeting she was meant to be having because 'You are more important'.

I was really quite shocked when it happened - my brain only really began to function properly about 90 minutes after the knock.

A tot of calming blackberry brandy may have already been taken...

And yes - I really couldn't have done anything about it - perhaps that is part of what makes it so unsettling, along with the physical shock.

My manager is a good one. I remember her when she was a staff nurse, and it has been interesting watching her making her way up - she really does know our service inside out, which helps a lot.

Thank you - and you are absolutely right about it not negating the shock - I was really shaky, and couldn't think straight for a good couple of hours.
