Grovelling apologies for not commenting before - I think you posted this while I was having a bit of an offline fortnight in reaction to March, which I spent so immersed in Back to Middle-earth Month that all sorts of aspects of offline life had got horribly behind! - and then your posting of Chapter 2 reminded me.
Mmm, this is fun, and sexy. (Though of course my imagination wandered off sneakily on to the topic of what Legolas and his companion might be up to next door...)
On a more serious note, the whole issue of whether or not any of the Elves would fight in any of Gondor's Fourth Age wars with the Haradrim is a really interesting question - I can see personal loyalties, on the one hand, and the very strong feeling that the Elves are gradually withdrawing from Middle-earth and that, with Sauron gone, these new wars are mere "Mortal politics", on the other. (IIRC, the Appendices specifically talk about Eomer riding to war in the Fourth Age with Aragorn, but say nothing about Legolas or Gimli...) I actually have an idea on the back burner for another Ithilien Tales vignette in which Legolas and Rowanna wrestle painfully with this very question.

Anyway, on to Chapter 2 I go!
