You sure it's not Friday 13th?
21 Apr 2012 01:57 pmI have come to the conclusion that my calendar is fast - a whole week fast - and yesterday was not Friday 20th April, but actually Friday 13th. It felt like it anyway. I said to
deborahw37 last night that I wouldn't dare post about it until today - as something else would then, doubtless, go wrong.
This is a quick run-down of my day, yesterday;
Traffic bad, get to work a few minutes late - not a problem in itself, just an indicator of the day to come.
Office-mate says she cannot get onto her computer - realise, very quickly, that she means her computer is not accessing the network - because neither is mine - nor, we realise when we ring up tech support, is anyone else's; the government network that we are linked into is down.
This means I cannot access my diary, my patient notes... I can listen to my phone messages, but no point in ringing back as I can't access their notes or make appointments to see them if I need to. In our office we mutter, make coffee, tidy a cupboard, and hope we can remember who we are seeing when...
Techies are good - system up again in time for me to find out where my first visit is - but not in time to do some of the other routine morning stuff.
First patient very stressed, lots of problems - 30 minute visit took an hour.
Set off for next patient who lives miles out of town up a lane off a country road... find the road closed, follow the detour, and am now on the other side of the place where the lane goes off it... patient's house totally inaccessible.
Back to office, ring patient to explain, try to catch up, grab short lunch break.
Set off to see patients in Ramsey with just enough time - Mountain Road is also closed. Detour to take coast road - which takes longer anyway - arrive 20 minutes late.
Need diesel before I can go back to Douglas; usual garage has all the pumps down whilst they are having the tank filled...
Get back to office about 3/4 hour late - hungry. There are some doughnuts left from a group lunch yesterday - take one, sit at desk, bite into it - and all the jam squirts out the other side all over the carpet.
Eventually head for home - road works. In which I end up sitting for 15 minutes.
The final thing was when I went to print the church notes I do every weekend, about 8pm last night, and the paper jammed - and got chewed up in the printer.
The good news is - today has been OK so far - although I haven't ventured out of the house yet...
