Christmas was good. And as, before we got to the 25th, people were posting pictures of Christmas trees, I am starting the post-Christmas report with a few pictures of mine so under the cut for festive angels and an archbishop )

Christmas was, as usual, quiet. We like it that way. D-d and I went to church on Christmas morning, met family and friends, sang carols, and I got to do something I have never done - I lit the Advent Candles! Four of the children were going to do the readings and the lighting - but two were late and we had to start without them - the other two said they'd do all the reading - but couldn't reach the candles - and they suggested that I light them - I had a great big smile as I did them.

Home to open presents accompanied by a glass of Buck's Fizz - I got a Kindle - hurrah! And a new sewing basket from D-d which is much needed - the old one is disintegrating. And there were smellies, and chocolates, earrings and a brilliant cookbook from [livejournal.com profile] dougalsservant - The Stornoway Black Pudding Bible. S2C was very taken with that, too; I have to start cooking from it soon!

We had peeled the vegetables the night before, and had the red cabbage on simmering, S2C had put the meat in the oven (a three bird roast courtesy of M&S) and so dinner was easily finished and so even more enjoyable. Apart from the roast there was extra stuffing (also courtesy of M&S...!), roast potatoes, roast parsnips, pigs in blankets - all washed down with champagne. So much dinner that all we did after it was have coffee - no room for pudding of any sort.

Then S2C went to bed (night shift worker...) D-d and I played with our presents (I downloaded stuff to the Kindle), and watched Happy Feet. We had a bit of Christmas cake about 5pm, had a short walk, and about 7pm decided to have tea - three sorts of crackers/oatcakes, a choice of four or five cheeses, cold turkey/duck/chicken, and smoked salmon. We watched 'The King's Speech', and sat around companionably.

Boxing Day morning I awoke and couldn't move. My back had been getting slowly more sore over the four days or so previously - sitting with my laptop had been getting more difficult - but by yesterday it had seized up totally. S2C massaged ibuprofen gel in for me, and I managed to move around painfully, but it made for a very quiet day. S2C had a busier day - the toilet seat broke on Christmas night and so he made use of B&Q starting their sale and went to get a new one, and fit it, before going to bed.

This morning I could move a little better - and D-d and I had plans to hit the sales. Fortunately she was driving. I was probably not the best shopping companion as I was still moving slowly, and required to sit and rest a couple of times - but we were well pleased with our purchases and my back is nowhere near as bad this evening as it was last night - so that's good.

And the festive season continues tomorrow as it is my birthday - poor old S2c will still be asleep most of the day, so D-d and I are meeting for an indulgent lunch at the crepery near her office. And I am off-work until next week - hurrah!
