Poor S2C is not well. He has been moaning about being unwell more than usual for the last few days, and actually looking quite ill. I have been worried about him.
But honestly - you know they say that one of the reasons men have a shorter life-span than women is because they don't go to the doctor?
Our GPs used to have a small surgery at the end of our road - even then S2C found excuse after excuse not to go about things like the excema/dermatitis that causes the skin on his hands to split. Then they closed this branch surgery when they opened a new one in the middle of town.
So over the last week I have been told that he couldn't go to the doctor because -
1. He didn't know where it was. Answer - in part of the building that was the main hospital until three years ago.
2. He had forgotten where that was.
3. He couldn't drive there, he had forgotten the route.
4. He couldn't drive there in case he couldn't park. Answer - they have a large car-park - I have never had any problem parking easily.
5. He wouldn't be able to get an appointment. Answer - ring as soon as posssible after 8 am, tell them you feel unwell, and you will get one of the instant appointments for that morning.
6. He couldn't ring at 8 am, he was just leaving work. Answer - use your mobile.
7. He didn't know the number. Answer - programme it into the mobile.
8. He didnt know how to do that. Answer - write it on a bit of paper.
9. He has to hurry when he leaves work to get the bus. Answer - ring from the bus-stop - or even the bus.
10. He would be too tired to go to the doctors.
11. He was too ill to go to the doctors.
and ninety more 'good' reasons. (Do you remember that song that started 'There's a hole in my bucket?')
Do you wonder that, becuase I was worried about him, I almost ended up throwing things at him?
Anyway - he managed to ring this (Friday) morning - he was given an appointment for 10.50a.m. with no problems, and I solved the 'I will fall asleep' problem by taking my break then, going home, waking him, and taking him for his appointment - so solving many of the other objections.
And the doctor says he probably has a clostridium infection in his guts, has given him two types of medication, arranged blood tests (I took him up to blood clinic as I had to go to the hospital anyway), and even gave him cream for the hand problem more or less in passing.
And he could have started to get better a few days ago if he hadn't had 101 reasons not to see a doctor - MEN!
