Pimping the Age Survey.
19 Jun 2006 12:49 pmA good number of people on LJ seem to be getting the feeling that the new owners, Six Apart, want to make it more like MySpace, to appeal to what they see as their major user group - the under 20s, or up to age 25 max. What gives people this idea? Mainly things like the 'nudge' feature, the attitude to default icons, and the 'wonderful' (/sarcasm) new layout they are trying to force on us gift us with. They also seem to want anyone over about 25 to move out, and onto a new service (Vox) they are developing.
Someone had decided to see whether teens and early twenties really are the majority of LJ users - or are the official statistics skewed because they seem to take them from those who put their year of birth on their journal, and the older people are the less likely they are to give their year of birth. (Like me!)
So on their journal HERE
txvoodoo has a simple poll/survey. Do go over and tick your age box - and if you are over 60, just knock a couple of years off to fit! There is also a question about LJ/Vox - txvoodoo didn't word it very well and then discovered that you can't edit polls without losing results from those who have voted - but take 'Yes' to mean you fancy Vox, and 'No' to mean that you want to stay here!
At the moment there are well over 1,000 responses, and it seems that the under 25s make up about 43%% of users, and there are more over 35s than under 20s.
Also I noticed that amongst the comments are some from those under 20s pointing out that they are here because they don't like MySpace!
I guess that the LJ PtB will get the results pointed out to them - and the more members who have completed it the more likely the results are to be a reasonable cross-section of LJ users.
PS - I'm pimping this now even though a few of my friends already have over the past couple of days - to keep the momentum up!
