TOSsers and Tits.
9 Jun 2006 09:05 pmThe saga of the unclothed bosom on LJ seems to be continuing. I can give you a bit more background – if you are interested.
A male LJ user was warned by the Abuse Team, also known as the ‘Terms of Service’ Team, that his default icon was of an explicit sexual nature, and he must replace it or be suspended. He in turn slapped in a counter complaint that the icons of a breast-feeding community were also sexually explicit.
The TOS team, hereinafter know as TOSsers for reasons of succinctness (!), took the complaint of what most people are referring to as a troll, seriously, and said if he was offended by them as explicitly sexual they must also face change or suspend orders.
At this point there was some sort of skirmish between rival communities, with one community going ‘Don’t be ridiculous!’ and another group saying ‘Ban them! Ban them!’ mainly because they had been arguing over something unrelated.
Those under threat of suspension used as their argument that a baby being breastfed, even if a couple of pixels of areola was visible, could not in any circumstances be seen as ‘sexual’. As the TOSsers, almost all of whom are volunteers, and presumably very proud of their important part in policing us all throughout the world, had already decided on their stance, it seems they could not back down, and so the wording of the FAQ covering default icons was changed – without us being informed as far as I know. It now reads ‘nudity’ rather than ‘sexual’, and so they now claim that all pictures showing any uncovered breast tissue is ‘nudity’.
My earlier post Here is the letter I sent the TOSsers, and their, off-the-shelf, reply. I was given the option to say whether I was or was not satisfied. I went for the ‘was not’ – and so under the cut is my next letter, and their reply. It includes some pictures that they should find unacceptable, and an icon that I find extremely distasteful, but which they would have no problems with.
( So under here is my missive, containing nudity and profanity – be warned!! )
And I will post about something other than bosoms next time, honestly.
