How not to be a domestic goddess!
2 Oct 2005 03:39 pmI am not big on cleaning. So when Dettox invented their mop with the disposable head covers, and the spray bottle system I was happy - cleaning the kitchen floor became so much easier.
Then a couple of weeks or more ago I went to mop the floor with it, and the handle snapped in two. So I search the shops for a new handle/head bit - but no-one sells them - only the disposable head covers and the spray bottles - because everyone has the mop handle bit now! Tried every shop in the area that used to sell them, but it's the same story everywhere.
However the supermarkets are now pushing the Flash version, so eventually I bought one of those. It has sat in the box in the kitchen for a week, waiting for me to work myself up into a frenzy and unpack it. Which I just did. Only to discover it is possibly the first mop in existence which needs batteries! which fortunately are provided. This mop is so complicated that it has a 16 page instruction leaflet, and took me more than ten minutes to put together!
And when I had finally followed all the instructions and put it together - the bloody thing doesn't work! The battery-driven spray thing doesn't spray - so I have taken it apart and tried to put it together again - still no action.
So I have cleaned the kitchen floor with disinfectant and a floor-cloth again - just like the last couple of times.
So much for advances in cleaning technology!
ETA: The husband took it apart and then put it together again, and realised that I hadn't pushed two of the handle parts together properly - and so the switch wasn't connected to the little pump thing. So now I have a mop with a little motor that sprays cleaning fluid in a fine spray onto the floor in front of it. And the good news is that actually it doesn't do a bad job of getting the sticky stuff off the floor.
Also - the husband was only semi-human between waking and leaving (but decided to sort out the mop as he read my post!) - but is aware of winning the award at the RDAs - even if he hasn't mentioned it on his journal!
