Life here 'On our Treasured Island' (to quote an awful jingle on Manx Radio!) proceeds with few ripples worth mentioning!

Daughter-dear went to see 'Hitch-hikers Guide to the Galaxy' a few days ago, and really enjoyed it. She recommended that S2C and I go, and hopefully we will get around to it before it leaves our cinema for bigger places!

High spot of my week has been buying some big blue ceramic pots to go into our front garden (which is about the size of a decent dining table - we are not talking acres here!!). We had had plants in pots inside blue wooden planters along under the windows, but the planters more or less disintegrated in this winter's weather. The pots had had mostly annuals in them, but we have gone in for a more suave look this time, and bought some lovely little clipped box bushes at B&Q. The one at the door is cone shaped about 3 feet high, and under the windows are ones about the size and shape of a football (proper, not American).

We have mulched them with white spar chippings, and put more of the chippings down on the bit between the house and the flowerbed against the wall - this is a task we do every couple of years - the chippings seem to disappear into thin air over a winter or two!! The triffid disguised as a fuchsia seems to be almost under control since I attacked it with the hedge trimmer a few weeks ago, and so currently I am pleased with the face our little house presents to the world!

Mind you, the back yard has a mixed assortments of nice pots with nice plants in (the minority), nice pots with scratty plants in, and some bedding plants sitting in small pots or 3 or 4 to a pot waiting to replace the scratty plants - so that it is the next outdoor task!
