I think this might be a bit 'you', to be honest - I reckon, if it is now clearer that we are stepping back in time a little to see the same scene through different eyes, it is reasonable to assume it is the outcrop that Legolas et al climbed and actually saw the ship.
But I did run it past my beta, and he thinks it is fine as it now is too.
