Festive!

I have ten minutes peace. Presents wrapped, red cabbage chopped and simmering, cake decorated by D-d, and a shepherd's pie in the oven for tea before we go to the 6.30 pm service at Church.

In Sunday School we finished telling the Christmas Story, made paper chains, and made cinnamon cookies!

Now I am just sitting here looking at the decorations, and all the lights (we use low energy bulbs all year around, then light up the room with so many lights that I think we use all the power we've saved). And I thought you might like to share -

Putting up cards - look carefully and you might spot her usual assistant...

The front window -

The tree -

The shelves over the TV -

And the close-up - showing even Predators can get in the swing of the season -

This is the mantelpiece -

Her is one of the nativity sets - we bought this one when we couldn't find the one we had had since D-d was tiny. The infant Jesus will only go into place tomorrow.

Then in time for the next Christmas we found the old set - so now we have two - this one came from a 'Pound Shop', and is actually only plastic, but it looks good -

Oh these are the flowers on the end of the hearth -

The Santa music box -

And the Santa lantern on the hearth -

Finally one of the glass bowls that D-d filled -

So that's us looking festive!

I might be around tomorrow, but Merry Christmas, or whatever you are celebrating, to all my friends, and thanks again for all the cards and e-cards.

Wow! Your home looks amazing! You must have some kinda energy. :) Merry Christmas to you, I hope you and yours get everything on your lists! *hugs*

Thank you. We have collected decorations over a good few years, and I put them up a bit at a time over about a week - finishing with the tree once D-d was home.

Have a lovely time yourself.

That looks so amazing!

I love the lights in the front window, they're gorgeous. I mean, everything is, but I especially like the window.

Also, playing "find the cat" in the first picture was fun. Is that red strip normally there, or is it some sort of awesome Christmas card tape?

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2006-12-24 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Hi! Thank you - I like the window as well, those are my newest lights.

The red strip is a card grip strip - it adheres to the wall, and the cards adhere to it - but it isn't actually 'sticky' so it just peels off again afterwards.

The front window looks magical. The greenery and lights look wonderful. The shelves and the mantlepiece are so pretty. It makes me think that I need some green walls at Christmas time! Perfect background for holiday decorating.

A very Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2006-12-24 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I hadn't thought about the green setting things off, but you are quite right, it does!

Merry Christmas to you and yours - have a lovely day.

Have a lovely time with your family. I like your twinkly icon.

Did my card make it in time? I hope so! Everything looks very lovely, indeed. I especially love the mantel. I've never seen those kind of lights before!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2006-12-24 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! Yes - it arrived yesterday - the 23rd - thank you. We've had the angel lights for five or six years now and I love them - they actually came from the local hardware store rathe than anywhere specialist at all.

Happy Christmas, and a Joyous New Year!

Julia, hoping to be a better person in 2007

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2006-12-24 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Have a lovely time yourselves - you don't need to be a better person - just a person in better health - or a person with better joints maybe!

[identity profile] diachrony.livejournal.com 2006-12-24 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
It really is festive and lovely!

It's so sweet how attached the kittycat is to D-d ... I hope he doesn't mope too much when she leaves again!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2006-12-24 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
He doesn't exactly mope - but he doesn't play with us much, and has been dashing around after a catnip mouse happily ever since she got home to throw it for him - our throwing is apparently substandard!

Your decorations are gorgeous and your home looks so inviting! I did nothing in the way of decorating this year - and now I feel like such a grinch! But Jamie's not going to be here for Christmas and Elena has to work and we currently have four cats staying with us! (and one of Jamie's is young and not well-trained; in fact, he incites the others to nautiness!) They knock everything off my kitchen table whenever I'm not in the room, so I can just imagine what they would do with decorations when I went to bed!

Hope you have a wonderful holiday, and I'll just pop in here and look at your decorations this year!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2006-12-24 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you - you are welcome to pop in any time - we have a bottle of mulled wine in the kitchen, and some cinnamon coffee....

I think with your household of cats I would just give them a bunch of tinsel and let them decorate for you - Image

Now, that's what I call decorating! Very festive!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2006-12-25 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
But we don't have a giant inflatable Santa! To be honest the front door of our house is so close to the street that there wouldn't be room for one!

Quiet on Christmas day, much busier today! But a nice Christmas Day none the less. I hope you had a good day with some nice sunlight.

[identity profile] zanthinegirl.livejournal.com 2006-12-26 07:06 am (UTC)(link)
What gorgeous decorations! I particularly love that first creche; but they're all lovely.

Hope it was a very merry christmas!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2006-12-26 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
That first creche is lovely isn't it? We had a little more spare cash when we bought that one than we did when we bought the other one when D-d was only one or two! But both have memories attached.

We had a nice day - very quiet, with a much busier house today!

[identity profile] rachel2205.livejournal.com 2006-12-26 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Very nice, tasteful decorations!

Here's a glimpse at ours...

Image

I hope you had a lovely Christmas day!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2006-12-28 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh I like your lights across the window - I love the curtain pole as well! And all the red on the table looks beautiful, and very festive.

Your actual living room is very similar in style to ours, only you have a bay window and still have both fireplaces, whereas the front fireplace was taken out when our two rooms were knocked together.

[identity profile] green-maia.livejournal.com 2006-12-28 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
What beautiful, beautiful, beautiful decorations!!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2006-12-28 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you - like most people's they have been added to over the years, and some are greeted like old friends - such as the nativity sets, and the angel lights, some are still settling in, like the lights in the front window. Others are added to as an on-going thing - we have a lot of glass decorations on the tree, and regularly buy new ones if we see them on our travels, so this year there are a set of tiny glass angels near the top which are new 'York' ones, and a new glass thistle from my friend D who lives in the Scottish island of Skye.
