The Life of Brian.

This will probably be of no interest to those outside the British Isles, as UK minor political scandals are unlikely to have made it into your consciousness, but those of you who know anything of current UK news read on...

Whilst getting dinner ready I heard S2C and D-d falling around laughing. As they were watching the news on TV at the time I wondered what on Earth the joke was, and had to go in to ask them.

Between gasps for breath the husband explained. The newscaster had said, after a short piece about Tony Blair canvasing for the UK local elections, that the Prime Minister was using 'The Life of Brian' defense, meaning 'What did the Romans/New Labour ever do for you?'

Only Kat reinterpreted the remark as 'John Prescott is not the Messiah! He's a very naughty boy.'

The entire cabinet wanks higher than any in Wome...

*giggles* Well said Wodewick.....

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2006-05-02 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
LoL! Nice to see you are still around as well!

[identity profile] frimfram.livejournal.com 2006-05-02 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not around at all. I'm asquare.

Also, tired :)

Poor sleepy you - have a sleepy icon - I seem to have run out of square ones....hmm, wait a minute, they're all square...

[identity profile] frimfram.livejournal.com 2006-05-02 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Did you ever read about the 'square sweets that look round' in Charlie & The Chocolate Factory? I was struck dumb by the cleverness of that at first reading.

I have an icon here of DB's new character looking very square.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2006-05-02 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a while since I read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to Kat, but I do just about remember them, now that you mention it.

Is that a round hole that the rather square DB is trying to fit himself into?

I've read far too much NC-17 lately to be able to answer that question at all.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2006-05-02 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
So it's sort of 'I may think that, but you couldn't possibly comment'.

[identity profile] spikesdeb.livejournal.com 2006-05-02 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Still chortling here! A very naughty boy....hehehehe

It's perfect, isn't it? I do like the person my baby has grown into.

[identity profile] ballena.livejournal.com 2006-05-02 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha ha! That's great :-)

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2006-05-02 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't it?

I thought the idea of the man from the Beeb descibing Tony Blair as using 'the Life of Brian defence' was funny in itself, but her addition was just perfect!

David Cameron opens Prime Minister's Questions with a spirited "Oi, big nose!"

"Nova Labores eunt domus"? People called New Labour, they go, the house?

Actually that makes a surprising amount of sense.

Oh that is wonderful!

To be close to losing one cabinet minister may be accounted a misfortune.....

Oh, and what Fwimfwam said.

I really like the person my baby grew up into! Her sense of humour owes quite a bit to her father - but with her own unique twist.

I will not be able to look at John Prescott now without hearing 'He's a very naughty boy!'

Was it Jon Snow on channel 4? Please tell me it was him or Jeremy Paxman!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2006-05-02 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I wasn't watching that closely - but it was the BBC 6 o'clock news, so unlikely to have been either of them, I'm afraid.

I think in the past few days there is quite a bit of political scandal going around.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2006-05-03 07:30 am (UTC)(link)
The Home Secretary's department has not been deporting foreign nationals who have been in jail. The Health Secretary told a Nurses Conference that the Health Service has just had its best year ever when thousands of nurses have been made redundant. But the thing that caught the public eye even more was the news that John Prescott, deputy prime minister, has been having an affair - then more than one affair, and then possibly sexually harrassing other members of staff. Thing is John Prescott is a big, overweight guy who looks like a bulldog - most women cannot see why anyone would WANT to have an affair with him!

LOL a very naughty boy indeed.

PS Love your icon.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2006-05-03 11:54 am (UTC)(link)
It is a perfect description.

The icon came from [livejournal.com profile] book_icons and is by kathiatra - gackable if you credit her.

You made my morning! Now earworming that tune and smiling like a fool.

Love minor political scandal in all of it's forms, international or not. It is usually terribly entertainting. It is truly the little things that make life worthwhile.

BTW, I absolutely love your username.

Thanks for the giggles.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2006-05-05 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Hello - making your day is my pleasure.

The user name stems from a nickname my husband has for me - I am naturally clumsy I'm afraid, and when we saw an out-takes show where a wombat fell off a table on which he appeared to simply be standing still, 'Wombat' I became, and have been for all my married life.

Curious - because I like to know 'why?' or 'why not?' about many things!
