Dancing on Ice - and not at the European Championships either!

I don't know if any of the European Doctor Who fans on my FL have noticed, but Captain Jack (or at least the actor who plays him!) is in the ITV programme 'Dancing on Ice' (Like 'Strictly Come Dancing' on ice). And he is very, very good. If I was a betting wombat I'd have me a fiver on him to win.

Please let there be a torrent for this some day. Dear lord.

I have! He was great tonight wasn't he? Very ambitious!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2006-01-21 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't he good? Personally I think he should have scored higher than Bonny Langford because she spent most of her time with both feet off the ice doing the acrobatics - stunning though the acrobatics were.

[identity profile] mentalme85.livejournal.com 2006-01-21 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I haven't actually seen it all yet. I taped it, but did see John as he was first. But I can definatly believe Bonnie spent most of her time in the air, didn't they comment on that in the first show? She definatly needs to try and keep her feet on the ice! or not, coz if she's any good she may challenge John.. Anyway really enjoyed Johns performace and I hope he wins.

Hi,

Not exactly sure since Dr. Who's first season won't be shown over here until March or May, but I think said actor had a role in the film version of the musical remake of "The Producers.

That is an incredibly clumsy sentence.

If it was him he had one of the funniest songs and one that was in the original movie, 'Springtime for Hitler'.

Take care of the thumb and cat.

John Barrowman - I've just looked him up!

Thumb now fine apart from slightly numb bit and a catchy bit of skin (as in on things, rather than doing a chorus of the above-mentioned song!)

Cat has gone upstairs to help the daughter with her studying - he does this by either lying on her bed (fine) or by attempigt to lie on the paper she is writing on, or the keyboard if she is using her computer! The length of time since he went upstairs, without him arriving back again accompanied by the sound of a closing door, implies today it is the bed option.

(PS - I am doing a little Xander fill-in piece from between 'News From Heaven' and 'Ten Years After' just now - your comment set me off on it.)

So cute only goes so far in the 'House of Wombat'.

Wonderful to read about your Xander story. S2C's latest shows a marvelous understanding for how the charater might have matured if given a chance coupled with distance from the Slayer.

Have fun writing.

750+ words down so far, and the cat has stayed off the keyboard as well - so far!

Hello -- just wanted to say that I love your user name.

Hi curiouswombat. Sorry to do this here, but didn't think you'd mind.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2006-01-22 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Course I don't mind, be my guest!

[identity profile] keswindhover.livejournal.com 2006-01-21 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I saw John Barrowman on stage in 'Anything Goes' last year (before he hit our screens in Doctor Who). He's an excellent singer and dancer, and you can see his teeth shine when he smiles, even from the Circle!

Really? They gleamed so much in "The Producers" that I was certain it was a special effect.

Scary.

I wonder if they glow in the dark?

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2006-01-21 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm trying to imagine a bed-companion with glow in the dark teeth - although not John Barrowman, he doesn't do much for me - but the whole idea has given me the giggles!

[identity profile] evilawyer.livejournal.com 2006-01-22 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
Multi-talented! That's neat. (I liked the guy's delivery of lines as Captain Jack).

[identity profile] spikereader.livejournal.com 2006-01-22 09:23 am (UTC)(link)
He was also singing on the BBC the hour before Dancing on Ice, and I was glued to both shows. The judges need to take into account the fact that he's doing all the lifting, and Bonnie is being lifted. Still, I think the final will come down to those two. And wasn't he a vision in purple and shades of the rainbow. :D

I saw him many years ago in 'Miss Saigon', and he's obviously an amazingly multi talented performer. Roll on Torchwood.

[identity profile] caliente-uk.livejournal.com 2006-01-22 02:42 pm (UTC)(link)
You saw him in Miss Saigon? *is extremely jealous* I've been an admirer of John Barrowman for a long time. One of the very first things I saw him performing on TV was a song from Miss Saigon. I'd have loved to have seen him performing it live! :)

Roll on Torchwood, indeed. There can never be too much JB on TV.

[identity profile] spikereader.livejournal.com 2006-01-23 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
You saw him in Miss Saigon?

It was the first ever musical I'd seen in the West End, and so holds an even more special place in my heart. I was completely entranced by the whole thing, and JB was amazing. Interestingly, the other male lead was Peter Polykarpou, who later turned up as one of the husbands in Birds of a Feather. He had an amazing singing voice too.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2006-01-22 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
As a skater he is fun to watch - rather than worrying like Andy Peters! I hadn't noticed him singing on something - what was it?

[identity profile] spikereader.livejournal.com 2006-01-22 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)

Yes, I think Andy Peters will be pleased to have been voted out last night. My bet is on Gaynor Faye for next week, she doesn't look comfortable out there at all, poor thing, or maybe Kellie Holmes, the judges don't seem to like her. (And another John Barrowman piece of trivia - he presented one series of the children's show 'Live and Kicking' with Andy Peters and Emma Forbes).

The singing thing is on BBC1 just before 6.00 (but not on next week but the week after). Bit of a mixed bag of singers (David and Carrie Grant, Mica Paris, some boy who used to be in Steps, and Ruthie Henshall and JB), plus a guest host who sings as well. JB also does a bit of backstage chat. You can tell who has put the time in in musical theatre though.

I missed John last night, but I did see Bonnie, and had to struggle with an internal dilemma the likes of which I have never experienced before -c.f

"Wow, fantastic legs..."
"But it's Bonnie Langford."
"Fantastic legs."
"But it's BONNIE LANGFORD!"
etc :)

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2006-01-22 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
And then there's not only is it Bonnie Langford, but she is old enough to be your mother, but she can't be, because she's Bonnie Langford, etc. etc."

[identity profile] caliente-uk.livejournal.com 2006-01-22 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't he good? John Barrowman is a very talented man. He'll give anything a try! Is there anything this man can't do? :)

[identity profile] caliente-uk.livejournal.com 2006-01-22 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! I bet he'd give it a go. ;)

Ways away off the subject but need opinion.

[identity profile] averageshmoe.livejournal.com 2006-01-22 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I've just seen another of what I call "A Page Three Abomination." Now this doesn't have anything to do with The Sun and their models. It's just that they seem to appear every third page over at FanFiction.net. It's a type of post-NFA story that I have come to despise. Buffy arrives after the battle and begins weeping over a pile of ashes. Angel, the sole survivor, appears from the shadows and she runs to him through all that remains of Spike. They embrace, the music swells and the story ends.

Do the authors have any IDEA how bad this makes Buffy and Angel appear? That story that I mentioned awhile ago over at S2C's LJ is pretty much a satire of this concept. I'm not certain I can write it now as most of these pieces satirize themselves.

In these worlds I'm glad that Buffy and Angel get together for I would never wish either of them on my worst enemy.

Anyway, would anyone be able to suggest who might be considered a victim of either Buffy or Angel, romantic or otherwise. My little ditty is a response to this leaky ship and I could sure use some help.

Thanks for any help you might be able to offer.

I guess other people might look at it a bit differently, but I think one of Angel's victims is Wes - Had Angel not pulled them into W&H he might have got into a relationship with Fred at least as quickly, but would not have lost her to Illyria, nor ended up dead as he did. I don't think Angel ever really forgave Wes for kidnapping Connor.

Xander could well be seen as a victim of his fascination with Buffy - although there is the distinct possibility that without him becoming part of the Slayer's inner circle he would have not survived high school. But without Buffy, had he survived, he would not have met Anya, would probably have been in a relationship with A.N Other by now, complete with two functional eyes.

But for most of the cast of both series people are both victim and beneficiary - Cordelia would have died four years or so before she ended up in the coma if Angel hadn't saved her from a vampire, and so on.
