Shakespeare Meme

Seen on [livejournal.com profile] pellegrina's journal -

When you see this on your flist, quote some Shakespeare on your LJ.

So - Shakespeare’s Sonnet No. 52

So am I as the rich, whose blessed key
Can bring him to his sweet up-locked treasure,
The which he will not every hour survey,
For blunting the fine point of seldom pleasure.
Therefore are feasts so solemn and so rare,
Since, seldom coming, in the long year set,
Like stones of worth they thinly placed are,
Or captain jewels in the carcanet.
So is the time that keeps you as my chest,
Or as the wardrobe which the robe doth hide,
To make some special instant special blest,
By new unfolding his imprison'd pride.
Blessed are you, whose worthiness gives scope,
Being had, to triumph, being lack'd, to hope.

...........

Which has special meaning to Tindómë and Rumil in The Winter Tale.

And here is an added bonus because the meme reminded me of it; the hauntingly beautiful sung version of Prospero's Speech;

Shakespeare was such an incredible visionary and poet. The world would be so much poorer without his words.

I always feel his use of words was so much better than much of his plot development...

Yay Shakespeare! I was never much for the sonnets so I hadn't run upon that one before, but I rather like it.

Loreena's great. I love her "Cymbeline" song.

I am a big Loreena fan - and yes, Cymbeline is lovely, too.

It was the mention of the 'blessed key' that appealed to Rumil...

That song is just gorgeous.

Isn't it just?

What a beautiful song! That sonnet is lovely as well--"being had, to triumph, being lack'd, to hope" makes me think of the few-and-far-between meetings between Aragorn and Arwen.

It is a beautiful song, isn't it?

I always think she has that 'clear bell-like voice' of an elf.

And yes - the sonnet would fit them, too.

That's a lovely song, good choice.

I can't believe I missed this post, but I have put my quote up this morning. :-)

It has been fun watching the quotes spread like ripples.

That is so beautiful. Thank you also for the Loreena link, I didn't know this before.

This meme is so beautiful, and I would like to participate - but since I never was much exposed to Shakespeare, I have a hard time finding a quote at all.

Thank you. I must admit to liking Shakespeare's musical, poetic, us of words rather than his plots and story lines!

And that Loreena song is just beautifully haunting; I really like it.

I can relate well to that. Not being a native speaker of English and not having studied the language, I only came by his plays rarely, and sometimes in a more roundabout way (I saw Macbeth, for example, as Japanese Rock Kabuki theatre. Quite a fascinating and cool experience, but I don't know if I got much of the plot *g*). But what little of his words I know I love for the sound of it and music in it. I've actually even found a quote to use, a song I like very much.

The beautifully haunting qualtiy of Loreena's songs are what usually appeals to me with her music.
