Celebrate the end of Lent!

My daughter just passed me this link. I think I would call it 'Embryonic Death by Chocolate'.

If you've given up both cake and chocolates for Lent it would certainly be a way of celebrating the end of your fast.

I'm torn between feeling ill at the very thought and wanting to dash out to the kitchen and make some of them...

[identity profile] dougalsservant.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 12:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't mind one if there was a version without the cream egg and the topping!

[identity profile] ningloreth.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 12:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I have got to make some of those!

[I noticed you're posting a new story, btw, & I'm hoping to get a chance to read it this weekend.

Also to sort out [livejournal.com profile] writerconuk.

How are you getting on with your LOTR bigbang story? I've just finished a very stressful Draco/Hermione challenge, and was looking forward to getting stuck in to a relaxing L/E story, when they started chasing me & I panicked! I'm hoping to get my mojo back tomorrow...]

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah - now that would be almost exactly what you would achieve id you used this recipe of mine (http://cookingupastorm.livejournal.com/70739.html#cutid1) - it works well in muffin cases....

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
They are probably, as my daughter said, a straight line to diabetes... but there is something strangely appealing about them!

New story in almost finished, but being posted at a chapter a week at the moment. This is relevant to the Bigbang story - I haven't started mine yet, either. I will start it when this one is basically finished - so probably in a day or two, maybe next weekend.

So I panicked a bit when I got the 'How are you doing? Are you quarter-way yet?' post too. I e-mailed back saying the story is currently only an outline - this is not unusual for me and I am still expecting to have it finished in time - then giving them an outline in about 100 words which should help any artist assigned to me - I hope!

Edited as Id made it look as if the B_B people expected me to be even further ahead than they do!

Wow. That would fill my chocolate quota for the month.

[identity profile] lady-branwyn.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
That looks so sweet that it makes my teeth hurt.

[identity profile] ayinhara.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 01:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 02:02 pm (UTC)(link)
And some, I think!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)
It's one of those things where you think 'Who on earth thought of doing that?'

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
It makes 'Death by Chocolate' look under-sweet, doesn't it?

[identity profile] petzipellepingo.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Too sweet for my palate!

[identity profile] sharelle.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
That. Looks amazing.

[identity profile] engarian.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG, I SO want one of these!!!

I don't do Lent, but maybe I could have one anyway?

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
It has to be one of the sweetest things anyone has ever made!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I dread to think what the calorific content is - but who cares?

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd make you one if I could e-mail it - but I fear the only answer is for you to get out your favourite chocolate muffin mix and a cream egg...

[identity profile] ukamikanasi.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I used to really like those Cadbury eggs, but the quality of the chocolate they use is... lacking. I wonder if the British ones are better? Hmm, I wonder if they have them at The British Pantry? I think a taste test is in order.

I find cream eggs too sweet and sticky. They used to be OK when they were bigger, but they are so small now!!

Not sure I could cope with the cream egg AND the icing!!!! Sugar rush!! :D

I must send that to Tim, as he gave up chocolate for Lent. I have never done that, as in the Brethren we don't ... and I have no will-power!!!!

[identity profile] nutmeg3.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I was just telling someone how much I adore Cadbury Creme Eggs, so... ::makes grabby hands::

[identity profile] engarian.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Tempting...very very tempting....

[identity profile] claudia-yvr.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 05:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Every year, I try a Cadbury Easter egg and each time I'm disappointed because it's too sweet for my tastes. (Which is just as well, because otherwise I'd gain a ton of weight around this time of year, LOL.)

So, I'd definitely pass on that cupcake!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[livejournal.com profile] fenchurche says that UK Cadbury's and US Cadbury's are definitely different. We regard it as very basic chocolate anyway - but she says it is much nicer than most US chocolate - I guess it's a matter of taste!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
It would certainly cause a mega suger rush.

They aren't a favourite of mine - I prefer the Mars or the Galaxy ones - and I'm guessing it would work with any of those if I really wanted to try.

S2C thinks the Lindt version (http://www.lindt.com/au/swf/eng/products/easter-collection/lindor-egg-small-treats/) would be the ultimate.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
If you do make a Lenten Fast that cupcake would be the ultimate way to end it - perhaps his wife might make some for him? :~)

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
You'll need to get out your favourite chocolate muffin mix and a creme egg and get busy!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I am not a big fan - but they are very much a basic kiddy thing - The Lindt version (http://www.lindt.com/au/swf/eng/products/easter-collection/lindor-egg-small-treats/) is much classier - and would probably work in the cupcake...

[identity profile] cbtreks.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
The egg in the cupcake looks a little dried out but I like the idea. (I saw brownies with half a cream egg baked in the top of each square but since the eggs were only there for the last five minutes of baking time, they looked fine.) Wish I could find the Cadbury orange cream eggs - they'd be even better.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I think baking like that probably would thicken the goo but it might make it slightly easier to eat!

[identity profile] zanthinegirl.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I literally just made chocolate cupcakes. and peppermint frosting; I have to say the cadbury egg idea is wacky but I'd have been tempted. But no more batter!

[identity profile] inzilbeth-liz.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Definitely feeling ill, and that's coming from a chocoholic!

Happy Easter!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah - but there's always next time... :~)

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Happy Easter to you, too. I think it would be a bit much for this chocoholic, as well!

[identity profile] wormwood-7.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Can't say the sight of that concoction tickles my tastebuds...
Making saffron buns tomorrow.
Happy Easter!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I am still rather mind-boggled as to who thought 'Oh - I know! I'll stick a whole creme egg into the middle of the cake mixture and, when it's done, I'll put a deep layer of sugary topping on it - won't that be something?'

Saffron buns sound very good - we had hot cross buns yesterday - and I'm making proper trifle for tomorrow. Happy Ester to you and yours, too!

[identity profile] sharelle.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously. I probably doubled my daily calorie intake just looking at it! But I SO want one!

[identity profile] estelcontar1.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
It looks too sweet for my taste. Now if it were some kind of very dark chocolate with some sort of a brandy and fruit feeling, the story would have been different. My mouth waters just thinking about it. *g*

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
There is a dark rich Lindt version of the creme egg - that might work...

[identity profile] clodia-metelli.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh wow.

... I wonder if I'll still be able to find creme eggs when my holiday's up and I head north to my own kitchen? I have to try that!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Do let me know how it works!

My husband is very tempted - he wondered if he just bought a chocolate muffin and a creme egg, dug a hole in the muffin, inserted the egg, and microwaved it whether it would work - I don't think it would, quite...

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
It seems to be splitting opinion - most think it is a step too far - a few want to try it as soon as possible!

[identity profile] bojojoti.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not a fan of Cadbury--the chocolate is mediocre--but I think I'd like my cupcake and candy separate, in this case.

[identity profile] cairistiona7.livejournal.com 2011-04-24 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my goodness, one bite of that would go a loooooong way with me. I can only just stand Cadbury eggs... they're really too sweet for me.

But I do understand your dilemma! They look really good, even if one bite would send a person into a diabetic coma.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2011-04-24 08:21 am (UTC)(link)
We regard Cadbury's as fairly standard kiddy chocolate - although I'm sure [livejournal.com profile] fenchurche told me that the version you get is not the same as the UK stuff - and that she prefers ours.

We thought the Galaxy chocolate egg, or a Lindt one, would be the ultimate version for the cake centre!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2011-04-24 08:23 am (UTC)(link)
I think the only realistic way to eat something like that would be to share it with at least two other people!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2011-05-01 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I've finally made a start - and done about 800 words today, so I reckon, for me, I'm on course!!
